European Green Deal Call with a €1 billion budget is now open!

On 17 September the European Commission launched the last and largest call under Horizon 2020, the European Green Deal Call - with a €1 billion budget - to respond to the climate crisis and help protect ecosystems and biodiversity, while spurring Europe's and world’s recovery from the coronavirus crisis by turning green challenges into innovation opportunities. The full Work Programme of the European Green Deal call is available online (https://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/wp/2018-2020/main/h2020-wp1820-cc-activities_en.pdf).

Given the urgency of the challenges it addresses, it aims for clear, discernible results in the short to medium-term, with a perspective of long-term change, experiencing new ways of engaging with citizens. There are fewer, but more targeted, larger and visible actions, with a focus on rapid scalability, dissemination and uptake. It will also continue building knowledge systems and infrastructures.

The call opens up plenty of opportunities for international cooperation being open to participation of entities from all countries across the globe, e.g. in the context of preventing and fighting wildfires, climate-neutral and socially innovative cities, etc.

The European Green Deal Call will be presented at the European Research & Innovation Days, followed by brokerage events, taking place as virtual events on 23 and 24 September. Registration is still open.
