New test methods for plastic and rubber product safety/塑料和橡胶制品安全新测试方法

JRC scientists have developed new methods to measure the content and migration of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) from rubber and plastic items. The developed PAH content method will be of use in determining compliance of plastic and rubber consumer articles with the current restriction on PAHs and feeds into current work initiated by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), at the request of the Commission, to develop a harmonised standard.

Scientists Develop A Nanocomposite to Promote Potato Seed Sprouts/中科院科学家研制出马铃薯种薯纳米促芽剂

The study was conducted by Prof. WU Zhengyan and his team in Institute of Technical Biology and Agriculture Engineering, Hefei institutes of physical science and their attempt was detailed in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. WU's team managed to develop a nano presprouting agent (NPA) for promoting potato seeds sprouting. NPA, an amphiphilic nanocomposite, was fabricated through loading hydrophobic silica in attapulgite networks. This work provides a promising presprouting approach for potatoes, which may potentially applicable in ensuring food supply.

Chinese Taiji Lens Help Advance Lensless Fourier-transform X-ray Holography /X射线波段的中国太极相移全息成像研究获得新进展

Recently, researchers at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have introduced the concept of Yin and Yang of Chinese Taiji diagram into diffractive lenses and successfully constructed a kind of phase-shifting three-dimensional focal spots, which can be used for lensless Fourier-transform x-ray holography.

China-developed AI helps assess brain injury patients/中国开发的AI有助于评估脑损伤患者

Chinese researchers and doctors have built an artificial intelligence (AI) model with medical imaging to help determine whether patients with severe brain damage might regain consciousness. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with doctors from PLA Army General Hospital and General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command, over five years developed an AI model, which can make an assessment based on images of brain functional networks
