Centers of Excellence

Excellence is a focal point of competence and knowledge on European Union subjects. It brings together high-level experts to create links between the various disciplines and resources in European studies and to form links with academic institutions in other countries.

A European Centre of Excellence is a large research centre that links theoretical research and applied research. Often in collaboration with foreign research institutions, they work on world-class technological developments and contribute to networking and closer integration between leading national R&D teams, international research organisations and European research infrastructures.

Their objectives are:

• Conducting targeted, focused, long-term research of high international calibre
• Researcher training and international collaboration

Their specific challenge is to ensure EU competitiveness when addressing scientific, industrial or societal challenges.
