Researcher mobility in a changing world
Invitation to participate in a survey on the impact of Covid-19 on researchers’ work and mobility
Covid-19 changes researchers’ work, interaction and mobility dramatically!
Beyond its huge impact on health, the welfare of both societies and economies, Covid-19 is greatly affecting academic research. Pandemic restrictions influence not only the way the researchers work but also create new barriers for interacting with peers, for ensuring continuity in the funding of research work, setting-up and pursuing international research collaborations and for disseminating research results, like conferences, meetings and workshops are cancelled. And they influence the possibilities of research institutes and universities to support and carry out research and to host guest researchers.
Why another survey?
Because knowledge about the pandemic’s implications for researchers and for EU-centric researcher mobility is still extremely limited. Researchers ask:
- How can I best cope with the Covid-19’s impact to ensure that I can still carry out my research and achieve the desired results?
- How can I communicate and cooperate with my colleagues in other institutes and countries when travel is restricted?
- Should I still pursue plans for research stays abroad? How can I pursue them under the current conditions?
That is why we designed a survey to gather information so that a rational, fact-based dataset can be prepared. Analysing the information gathered will produce transferrable lessons learnt for researchers to help them cope and thrive despite today’s – and maybe tomorrow’s - challenges.
What is the extra value of this survey?
Researchers will find the results useful for re-arranging their work to cope with the pandemic’s effects and for assessing if and how EU-centric researcher mobility fits into their career in the days of Covid-19. And the funding and governing organisations that support research and mobility will receive valuable policy input that will help them to adapt their support to the new conditions.
That is why… We invite you to participate in the survey!
As a member of the EURAXESS network, we invite you to share with us valuable information on your perception of the current crisis and on the way how you cope with it so that with your help we can collect and compile the information necessary for finding solutions. For this, please proceed to the survey at
This survey should take fewer than 15 minutes to complete.
