Please, note that additional trainings on the ERC will be offered by ENRICH in

These 2 events will be hosted by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) at their premises in the capitals, with the support of EURAXESS Brazil.

Target groups

This training is for:

  • researchers, with a PhD - ongoing or completed - in all areas of knowledge and from all institutions

  • research administrators from higher education and research institutions.

Which grants?

This event will focus on two type of grants: the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) and European Research Council (ERC) grants.

The two main EU programmes for researcher mobility and training support scientists wishing to spend several years in Europe either in a research team that already exists (MSCA IF) or by creating their own research group (ERC). Funding opportunities to run ambitious projects with researchers based in Europe (ERC Synergy grants) will also be presented, as well as funding to undertake research and innovation projects with European and international partners (MSCA RISE).

Content of the training

The first day (5 August) will be dedicated to the ERC and EURAXESS. It aims at introducing the European Research Council (ERC) funding options and explaining how and why to apply for the grants. It will be complemented by a report of a successful applicant. Valuable information about the evaluation criteria and process will be provided. The theoretical information will be supplemented by practical exercises.

The ERC funds ambitious researchers and their groundbreaking research ideas and is part of Horizon 2020. The ERC is for excellent researchers looking to set up their own team in Europe or to collaborate closely with a small group of Europe-based teams!

A detailed presentation of EURAXESS will show you how to get the most out of the European portal to boost your research career in Europe.

The second day (morning of 6 August), the 4 main Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions will be presented. During the interactive session, a comprehensive training will be provided tor researchers willing to prepare a proposal for either MSCA IF or MSCA RISE.

About the ERC Trainer

Ylva Huber is a geneticist by training and joined the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG, Division of European and International Programmes) in 2004. She acts as National Contact Point (NCP) for the European Research Council (ERC) since 2011 and coordinates FFG's contribution to the EURAXESS initiative.

About the ERC

The European Research Council (ERC) is a funding agency for investigator-driven frontier research established by the European Commission in 2007. Aiming at fundamental advances at and beyond the “frontier“ of knowledge, the ERC seeks to encourage the highest quality research through competitive funding by supporting research bottom-up across all fields on the basis of scientific excellence.

The ERC is open to researchers of all nationalities who are interested in conducting research in Europe.

It funds young, early-career top researchers ('ERC Starting grants'), already independent excellent scientists ('ERC Consolidator Grants'), and senior research leaders ('ERC Advanced Grants').

Furthermore, since recently an ERC Principal Investigator may be hosted by an institution outside of Europe if he/she is supported by an ERC Synergy Grants,. Those generous grants support groups of two to maximum four Principal Investigators (PIs) working together and bringing different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems. One Principal Investigator per Synergy Grant group at any one time can be hosted or engaged by an institution outside of the EU or Associated Countries, such as Brazil or any other LAC country..
