Call by the British Council - English Collaboration Projects to Promote English Learning in Brazilian Institutions

british_council

The British Council launched the UK Brazil English Collaboration Call, for funding joint projects between Brazilian and British higher education institutions, to promote English-language applied research.

Joint proposals may be submitted by universities, colleges or other private institutions of the United Kingdom in collaboration with federal institutes and universities, public and private, in Brazil. The financial resources will enable the development of new partnerships, or the strengthening of existing cooperation.

The support will finance two lines of research. The first is directed at English language policies as a component of the internationalization process of Brazilian higher education institutions, aligned with the "internationalization at home" agenda.

The second line of development is focused on basic education supporting research on the improvement of teaching and learning of English in the Brazilian public network - primary and secondary education. Proposals should take into account the sustainability and scalability challenges of these initiatives vis-à-vis the country's size.

At least 10 projects will be funded. A greater number of projects may receive resources, depending on the availability of funding. Subsidies requested should have a maximum value of £10,000 and be implemented within a period of up to 7 months. The funding may cover costs such as:

  • Academic mobility - researchers, staff - for knowledge exchange;
  • Costs of organizing meetings, seminars, workshops and training;
  • Other activities to establish and strengthen collaborative relationships;
  • Travel costs and costs directly related to the project operation, including field activities;
  • Software licenses.

The British Council counts on the partnership of the National Council of State Foundations for Research Support (CONFAP), as well as the FAPs below. Thus, for bilateral agreements, Brazilian institutions from the following States will receive support from local FAPs:

  • Paraná (Araucária Foundation);
  • Federal District (FAPDF);
  • Alagoas (FAPEAL);
  • Amapá (FAPEAP);
  • Amazonas (FAPEAM);
  • Ceará (FUNCAP);
  • Goiás (FAPEG);
  • Maranhão (FAPEMA);
  • Mato Grosso (FAPEMAT);
  • Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG);
  • Piauí (FAPEPI)

The period for implementing the projects is between 1 December 2018 and 1 December 2019.
