About

Falling Walls Lab Australia 2022

The Australian Academy of Science will host the seventh Falling Walls Lab Australia, in partnership with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canberra, EURAXESS Australia and New Zealand, DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Study Queensland.

Falling Walls Lab Australia provides ten emerging researchers, academics, entrepreneurs and professionals in Australia a platform to present their research, business model, innovative project, social initiatives or ideas to a distinguished audience from academia and business. Those presenting at this event were selected by the Falling Walls Lab Sydney, organised by DAAD and EURAXESS, and the Falling Walls Lab Brisbane, organised by QUT and Study Queensland.

This is one of many Falling Walls Labs taking place globally throughout the year. Last year, international Labs were held in 90 countries with more than 1000 presenters. Many of this year’s 100 winners from around the world, including three from Australia, will travel to Berlin to participate in the Falling Walls Lab Finale on 7 November. On the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, these young science professionals will propose solutions to the greatest challenges of our time, contributing to a better world.

In Berlin, one presenter will be selected as the winner in the Emerging Talents category for the next generation of outstanding innovators. They will present alongside nine other luminaries on the grand stage in front of a distinguished audience of industry leaders, decision-makers, investors and international media representatives.

EURAXESS Australia & New Zealand Prize

Academy partner EURAXESS will provide a high-quality online science communication training to the three winners, led by European experts including opportunity to have one-on-one consultation with the experts. This training will focus on equipping the winners with essential communication skills which are directly applicable to the effective communication of their innovative ideas in a virtual setting.

About Falling Walls

Falling Walls is an international three-day conference held in Berlin each year inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989. The question of every Falling Walls gathering is: Which walls will fall next? The conference fosters discussion on research and innovation and promotes the latest scientific findings among a broad audience from all parts of society.

The goal of the Falling Walls Lab is to advance scientific and entrepreneurial visions, and to initiate and promote exchange between outstanding talents and innovative thinkers across disciplines. Falling Walls Labs are organised by independent partners of Falling Walls Foundation and are held in locations across the globe with the winners from each Lab being invited to present at the Falling Walls Lab global finale – Falling Walls Pitch, Berlin on 7 November 2022.

There will be a total of three full days of stimulating presentations and inspiring interactions from 7-9 November 2022 with an option to join remotely for participants unable to travel.
