International Conference on Research and Innovation of the EU - Vietnam 2021, NASATI-MOST signs MoU with EURAXESS

The National Agency for Science and Technology Information and EURAXESS ASEAN signed a cooperation agreement on promoting science, technology and innovation.

Last December 13, the international conference "Research and innovation of the European Union - Vietnam 2021" and the signing of a MOU- Memorandum of Understanding to institutionalize the cooperation agreement on promoting science, technology and innovation between the National Agency for Science and Technology Information (NASATI) and EURAXESS Worldwide.

Signing the partnership through the MoU were Dr. Tran Dac Hien, Director General of the National Science and Technology Information Department and  Mr. Bernhard Mach, Project Director of EURAXESS Worldwide with Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of NASATI and Dr. Jenny Lind Elmaco, Regional Coordinator of EURAXESS ASEAN serving as witnesses.

Representing the European Union, Mr. Koen Duchateau, Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam said:

"Today is a milestone in EU – Vietnam research and innovation partnership with the signature of this MoU between NASATI and EURAXESS. Congratulations! I am confident that many Vietnamese researchers will be in a position to take advantage of this strengthened EU – Vietnam research and innovation collaboration and partnership."

Mr. Duchateau also shared  “Global Gateway”, the new European Strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport and strengthen health, education and research systems across the world which was launched last 1 December 2021. It stands for sustainable and trusted connections that work for people and the planet, to tackle the most pressing global challenges, from climate change and protecting the environment, to improving health security and boosting competitiveness and global supply chains. The EU’s Global Gateway aims to mobilise up to EUR 300 billion in investments between 2021 and 2027 to underpin a lasting global recovery, taking into account our partners’ needs and EU's own interests.

In his speech, Dr. Tran Dac Hien introduced the National Agency for Science and Technology Information (NASATI), a state management agency nurturing programs on science, technology and innovation of Vietnam. He shared that NASATI's activities over the past 60 years have actively supported policy makers as well as the scientific research and technology development community of Vietnam. "We have strived to create the most favorable environment for S&T information services; enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors, through science and technology fairs and exhibitions, organizing activities of information technology and equipment exchange floors and many other forms to connect businesses. research institutes, universities, enterprises, support commercialization of research results and bring science to the consumer," he said.

NASATI has cooperated with more than 100 agencies, organizations and businesses from nearly 40 countries around the world. NASATI is also the national representative participating in multilateral international organizations in science and technology information cooperation.

"We believe that the cooperation with EURAXESS Worldwide will help the Vietnamese scientific research community to have more useful information, as well as opportunities for cooperation and joint research between the two Asia-Europe regions, contributing to the common development of science and technology. technology on two continents," he remarked.

Appreciating the cooperation between NASATI and EURAXESS Worldwide, Ambassador Dr. Le Thi Tuyet Mai said: " From the perspective of the Vietnam-EU relationship, there has been a positive development and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the EU over the years, enhanced by the Agreements. and many cooperation programs in politics, trade, investment and defense and security such as EU - Vietnam Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), EVFTA, EVIPA... Besides, December/ In 2020, Vietnam, along with ASEAN and EU countries, will upgrade their relations to the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership. Such comprehensive partnership and cooperation agreements affirm the common interests of Vietnam and the EU in promoting a stronger relationship in science, research and innovation.

In that context, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NASATI and EURAXESS will create conditions for researchers, scientists and innovators from Vietnam and the EU to jointly promote research activities and programs. and innovation in science and technology, contributing to comprehensively promoting cooperation and partnership between Vietnam and the EU in many fields, including effectively responding to global challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic. climate change, environmental protection for comprehensive recovery after the pandemic and sustainable development for the benefit of the people of Vietnam and the EU”.

Mr. Pierrick Fillon-Ashida – Senior Policy Specialist in charge of science, technology and innovation, Directorate for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) sent a prerecorded video message of support and emphasized that the  collaboration of researchers and innovators is essential for a better and healthier future. 

Also presenting during the event were Associate Professor Ha Anh Tuan – Representative of the Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore; and Dr. Jenny Lind ELMACO - Regional Coordinator, EURAXESS ASEAN.

Excellent Vietnamese researchers who are alumni of EU-funded projects also presented their work and shared their experiences: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan - Director of the Research and Development Institute of Circular Economy, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Ngo Nhien – Executive Director of Vietnam Energy Transformation Initiative Network; Professor Tang Anh Minh – Vietnam Global Organization for Science and Experts (AVSE Global); Assoc.Dr. Tran Phuong Tra, MBA Program Manager at IPAG Business School (France), Director of Economic Policy Network at AVSE Global.

In addition, representatives of units under the Ministry of Science and Technology; representatives of universities, research institutes, domestic and international enterprises; scientists; news agencies and press also attended.
