Falling Walls Lab is a unique competition that provides researchers and entrepreneurs a platform to present their innovative ideas, research projects and social initiatives. The challenge is to present this in just 3 minutes in English!

The winner of the Lab gets to compete at the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin with winners from across the world

International Labs and the Finale in Berlin

The first Falling Walls Lab took place in Berlin in 2011 one day prior to the Falling Walls Conference (www.falling-walls.com/conference), established on the anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall. Thanks to the huge success of the Falling Walls Lab 2011, the Falling Walls Foundation and A.T. Kearney extended the format to a global scale in 2012. Since then, international Labs take place in different vibrant cities around the world throughout the year. So far, Falling Walls Labs have taken place in more than 30 countries. The Falling Walls Lab Finale is held each year in Berlin on 8 November. The Finale gathers 100 participants, among them all winners of the international Labs.

EURAXESS Prize 2019

An additional EURAXESS Prize of EUR 600 to facilitate the winner’s visit to a research institute of his or her choice located anywhere within the European Union.

WHO CAN APPLY?

• Outstanding scholars, researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs, young professionals, and innovators.

• All disciplines are welcome.

SELECTION CRITERIA/ELIGIBILITY

• If an applicant has a Bachelor’s degree, the degree should not date back more than 10 years.

• If an applicant has a Master’s degree, the degree should not date back more than 7 years.*

• If an applicant has a PhD, the degree should not date back more than 5 years.**

• Postdocs and students currently enrolled in university are also eligible to apply.

*An MD (excl. a doctoral dissertation) will be considered equivalent to a Master's degree.

**A Dr. Med. (incl. a doctoral dissertation) will be considered equivalent to a PhD.

IMPORTANT:

• Select the Lab closest to your location. Travel and accommodation expenses for participation at an international Falling Walls Lab will not be covered unless otherwise stated by the local organisers.

• If you have already participated in a Falling Walls Lab as a presenter, you are no longer eligible to apply.

• Be prepared to submit your CV, your presentation title (Breaking the Wall of...), a short description of the problem you plan to address, and your solution to that problem.

• No ticket purchase is necessary when applying to a Falling Walls Lab.

• Applications must be filled out in English! Applications in other languages will not be accepted.
