CHAMELEON is a new Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network focused on developing virtual laboratories to study planet-forming disks and exoplanets: https://chameleon.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/.
The team comprises of leading European research groups from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, and the UK.
We are looking for 15 outstanding Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) to join the CHAMELEON Innovative Training Network (ITN) to study for their PhD. We offer a range of projects that use advanced numerical and statistical methods from astrophysics, computational chemistry, laboratory and theoretical physics, geosciences, mathematics, and computer sciences. Benefits of being an ESR in the CHAMELEON ITN
Within CHAMELEON you will receive supervision from experienced researchers from the University of St Andrews (UK), University of Groningen (NL), University of Copenhagen (DK), University of Edinburgh (UK), KU Leuven (BE), and the University of Antwerp (BE).
You will also benefit from the combined training resources of CHAMELEON, including summer schools, exposure to the science/art interface, and secondments at scientific and non-scientific partners.

Each ESR will be appointed on a full-time, fixed-term contract for a period of three years under the ITN at a primary host institute; additional funding may be available in some instances to reconcile with the duration of national PhDs. They will also be seconded to another CHAMELEON institute (detailed in individual project adverts, https://chameleon.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/recruitment) that will form part of dual degrees between the two CHAMELEON institutes. Additional time may be added to individual contracts as part of these dual degrees.
Availability to travel, for the purposes of the research and training activities, is a requirement for these posts. ESRs will be paid a monthly salary that will be the subject of your primary host nation tax regulations. Depending on the host you will also have the option of joining a superannuation scheme. The role also attracts an annual mobility allowance that will be paid monthly in addition to salary. An annual allowance is also available for successful applicants who have dependants.
Marie Curie eligibility rules require that ESRs have no more than four years' research experience, counting from the date at which they have been awarded a degree that allows them to embark on a PhD, and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
To satisfy Marie Curie mobility criteria, you must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of your host institute for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the start date. Short stays such as holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account.
The Marie Curie programme places no restrictions on nationality: applicants can be of any nationality and currently resident in any country worldwide, provided they meet the eligibility requirements set out above.
We particularly encourage applicants with degrees in physical science that have a strong mathematical and/or computational basis.
