EURAXESS Africa, in partnership with the University of Seychelles, hosted an interactive Hands on Seminar on Horizon Europe. The session provided researchers, academics, and innovation stakeholders with practical guidance on engaging with Horizon Europe, the European Union's key funding programme for research and innovation.

Key Highlights:

  • Practical Guidance: The session featured a hands-on walkthrough of Horizon Europe tools, including how to find suitable calls and build competitive proposals.
  • Strategic Opportunities: The event spotlighted the 24 new call topics under Africa Initiative III, supported by a €500 million budget, more than double the funding of previous initiatives.
  • Stronger Ties: Participants explored how to strengthen EU–Africa collaboration in areas such as public health, climate resilience, and digital transformation.

Featured Speakers:

  • Mrs. Christine Pejakovic, Director of the Education and Socio-Economic Research Institute, delivered the opening remarks.
  • Dr. Laurent Bochereau, EU Science Counsellor to the African Union, presented the strategic vision and priorities of Africa Initiative III.
  • Dr. Ahmed Maalel took part in the hands-on seminar, guiding participants through the EURAXESS platform and the Funding & Tenders Portal (FTOP), highlighting tools for identifying calls, creating  profiles, and connecting with European consortia.

Why It Matters:

This event marks a key moment in advancing African participation in Horizon Europe. With increased funding and targeted support mechanisms, African researchers and institutions are better positioned than ever to contribute to and benefit from EU-funded science and innovation projects.
