Main initiatives and programmes | Main joint research labs and projects: - Two structures were set up in the frame of the 2004 agreement on emerging infectious disease: the Institut Pasteur Shanghai and, more recently, a P4 Laboratory in Wuhan.
- In the space sector, two science satellites are being built jointly, CFOSAT (China France Oceanography SATellite to be launched in 2018) and SVOM (Space-based multiband astronomical Variable Objects Monitor to be launched in 2021).
- In the field of green chemistry, the UMI E2P2L is a French/Chinese/Academic/Industry joint research lab involving, on the French side, CNRS and the Solvay Company.
- 7 Sino-French institutes have been established in Chinese Universities from 2004 onwards. They provide higher education up to master level to cohorts of Chinese students, using French methods and involving French professors and researchers, and are in the process of establishing research projects and extension to PhD level.
- The Sino-European Laboratory in Computer Science, Automation and Applied Mathematics, LIAMA, is a research hub, hosted by CASIA, the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Created by INRIA and CAS in January 1997, LIAMA conducts research, training and transfer projects in Computer Science, Automation and Applied Mathematics. Each research project of LIAMA is a cooperation between European and Chinese researchers, and is hosted by a partner institution in China.
Institutional and financial support for joint research: - ANR/NSFC: one call for proposal launch per year to support new Sino-French projects.
- CNRS has set cooperation programs with NSFC, CAS and CASS.
Mobility, Human Exchanges : Support mobility for existing cooperations - Xu Guangqi: The goal of the Xu Guangqi program is to develop collaborations between Chinese and French researchers working in laboratories of both countries by supporting them in their initial phase. Mobility of young researchers is more specifically encouraged. Projects in all disciplinary fields are supported for 1 year.
- Cai Yuanpei: Created by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Higher Education and Research, the Cai Yuanpei program aims at fostering the exchanges of PhD students, their supervisors and post-docs between the 2 countries. Research cooperation projects between French and Chinese research teams are selected and supported for 2 years. All disciplinary fields are eligible. About 25 new projects are supported each year.
- Virtual labs: A number of structured cooperation projects are supported, mainly via the funding of mobility, by the LIA and GDRI programs operated by the CNRS.
Promote new contacts: - Discover China: Mobility program allowing French researchers to deepen their knowledge on the research done in their domain in China.
- Zhang Heng Program: Program of identification and follow-up of French scientific talents towards public Chinese network of research. It grants young French scientists for a short customized trip in Chinese labs.
- Emergence: Specific mobility program dedicated to emerging infectious diseases. It gives the opportunity to high level Chinese and French researchers to discover their colleagues in the other country and establish scientific partnerships.
- France Excellence Summer School: Created in 2016, the summer school program targets Chinese students at master level in various fields including Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Social Sciences and Humanities. Its goal is to establish a first contact between these students and French professors and researchers for a future PhD in France.
Innovation: - COOPOL Innovation: This program established in 2008 aims at facilitating the cooperation between French innovative SMEs and their research partners with their Chinese counterparts. The program supports an exploration mission of one week to meet with potential collaborators, both academics and industrials.
- Club R&D: Periodical meeting of French companies having research activities in China. Presentations and discussions around subjects of common interest (IP, Human Resources, Institutional Programs, Technical developments, …).
(French) Science popularization: - High level conferences « Excellence scientifique française »
- “Café des Sciences”
- Exhibitions and other scientific/cultural events. Cooperation with CAST.
- Edition of communication supports about sino-french scientific cooperation
