The event aims at encouraging and facilitating the cooperation in science, technology and entrepreneurship between Brazil and the EU, thus supporting and empowering R&I players.
The event shall promote exchange of experiences and best practices in Europe and Brazil in R&I and will host the EU-Brazil Innovation Pitch contest, thus giving promising researchers/innovators the chance to showcase their projects and ideas to solve some of the challenges faced by our globalised world.

Innovation Pitch competition - Pitch your way to Europe
The EU-Brazil Innovation Pitch is a contest giving promising researchers/innovators the chance to showcase their projects and ideas to solve some of the challenges faced by our globalised world.
By awarding the winner a trip to Europe, the organisers reinforce their commitment to increase international scientific and innovation collaboration.
The competition was jointly organised by EURAXESS Brazil, CONFAP and ENRICH Brazil, with the support of the EU Delegation to Brazil. It took place in the framework of the broader EU-Brazil cooperation event focused on bridging Research & Innovation.

Winner
Beatriz Gasparini Reis, post-doctoral researcher, at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), won the competition with her innovation project on Water treatment & low cost technologies
Finalists
The selection committee has carefully analysed the 80 applications submitted for the EU-Brazil innovation Pitch and selected the 5 best candidates. The finalists were:
Professor of the Computing Department at Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco and Invited Professor at the postgraduate program at CESAR SCHOOL. PhD in Computer Sciences at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, with more than 15 years of experience in the software industry, as well as a researcher on artificial intelligence, software engineering, testing, and product quality. Leader of the HEAR Project, encouraging the development of software solutions for solving social problems.
Biologist, Msc and PhD in Sanitation, Environment and Water Resources (UFMG), sandwich PhD at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA Toulouse) and postdoc at the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (UFMG). Experience in pollution characterization, control and prevention, water/wastewater treatment and reuse, ecotoxicology, membrane separation processes, advanced oxidative processes and circular economy.
Researcher at the Pharmacology Department of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and CEO in TechPain, a startup focused in developing new technologies for chronic pain treatment. Has experience in pharmaceutical research and scientific entrepreneurship, with emphasis on pharmacology and health technology, working mainly on the following topics: pharmacology of pain and inflammation, immunology, cellular and molecular biology.
Associate Professor at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT). Scientist and entrepreneur, she has coordinated UFT's biomass, biofuels and bioenergy testing and development laboratory since its implementation in 2006. In 2019, created the startup GreenEnergy, focusing on the use of residual sludge, agrochemicals, biomass by pyrolysis process, for production of green energy and biofuels substitutes for petroleum derivatives: diesel, gasoline and green biogas. In the last 20 years of his career, he has published about 50 national and international scientific articles and two patent applications.
Food Engineer from the Federal University of Ceará, Master and PhD student in Food Science and Technology. She was a Capes Fellow between 2011/2012 at the Université de Lorraine in France and between 2017/2018 at the Ohio State University, USA. Attended the Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context in Switzerland (2019) as well as the national stage of the Falling Walls Lab BH. Currently studying at USP-Ribeirão Preto as a partnership for the development of her doctoral project on green alternatives to plastic waste.

Julie works as Scientific Liaison Officer in Brazil for Wallonie-Bruxelles International, the international relations department of the french speaking part of the country, fostering R&D cooperation between Brazil and Wallonie-Bruxelles. She worked previously as lawyer specialized in intellectual property and licensing in the Technology Transfer Office of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She has a degree in Law from this latter university, oriented toward international and intellectual property law.
Experienced R&I consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry. Strong consulting professional skills in Innovation Management, International Development, Management Consulting, Project Planning, and European Union. With 20 years of experience as senior expert and project manager for National and European Research and Innovation programmes. Project manager for several EU projects (from EU-FP5 to Horizon 2020). In 2001 has been nominated by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research Italian National Contact for the EU Framework Programme with the aim to promote the participation of Italian organisations in research and innovation projects. Speaker and trainer in several national and international conferences, workshops, training courses, projects meeting and other events. Currently National & EU grant office manager at Ro Technology srl.
Leonardo is Senior Research and Innovation Advisor; he is founder and CEO of Europe for Business Ltd. He consults several European research and business communities on issues relating to European Innovation and Research programmes. Leonardo has twenty years of international experience in the field of EU consulting and academic experience in regional studies with special interests in Innovation, and Governance with more than twenty publications. In 1999, he finished his Master in European Studies at Sussex European Institute in University of Sussex, where he did a research project of Regional Policy in Innovation.
Alessandro is the CEO of the Federal District Research Foundation – FAPDF. Originally, a Foreign Trade Analyst from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), he has held various leadership roles both in government as well as in the private sector. He has spearheaded initiatives in digital transformation, industrial policy and the development of innovation ecosystems. He holds bachelor degrees in both Computer Science and Business and a masters degree in Public Administration.
Two times awarded with Premio Jabuti, Brazil’s most traditional literary prize, in the categories of Business, Economics & Law, for the books “Humankind and its frontiers: from sovereign State to global society”, and “Humankind against the ropes: global society’s fight for sustainability” and the report “. With over 100 articles published in some of Brazil s most important newspapers and magazines, he is frequently invited to share his opinion on Radio and TV programs. Recently, edited the guide “Doing Business Right: Legal Aspects of Startups”, the report on the survey “Startups Legal Outlook and the report “Fostering Innovative Entrepreneurship in Brazil”. PhD in International Law from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), where he also graduated. Post Doctorate at IESE Business School, in Spain, Master (D.E.A) in International Law from the University of Paris II - Panthéon-Assas and visiting research scholar at Columbia University in New York. Invited professor at the Dom Cabral Foundation, he has been a professor or lecturer at institutions such as Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Sao Paulo (IEA-USP), International Institute of Social Sciences (IICS) and FAAP, and was Dean of the School of Law at University Anhembi Morumbi. Partner of Nogueira, Elias, Laskowski & Matias Advogados, he is in charge of the Corporate, International Law and Innovation and Startups practices and is Vice-President of the Commission on Creative Entrepreneurship and Startups of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-SP).
Mario Neto Borges, Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Engineering Education, is a retired Associate Professor at the Federal University of São João Del Rei – UFSJ, where he lectured, became Head of Department and later Dean. In 1998, he was elected Rector, position that he held for six years. He was the Scientific Director of the Minas Gerais State Agency for Research Development – FAPEMIG (2004/2008) and its President (2008/2014). At national level, he was the President of the National Council of State Funding Agencies – CONFAP (2009/2013). He was also the Academic Director of the Brazilian Society for Engineering Education – ABENGE, (2005/2010). He was the head of International Affairs – CONFAP for two years (2015/2016). From 10/2016 to 01/2019 he was the President of the National Council of Science and Technology – CNPq, the Brazilian Federal Agency for funding research at national level.
