Description

Call closing 12th September 2018

Brief description of the Research Group:

The ENCOMAT group (http://encomat.uvigo.es/en) is a leader team in Spain in the application of electrochemical techniques to the study of metallic corrosion. The main fields of expertise deal with the electrochemical behaviour of steel in concrete, corrosion protection by organic and inorganic coatings, and surface modification via different approaches.

Project description:

The proposed project deals with the study of corrosion mechanisms of engineering materials employed in the energy industry, including thermosolar plants. The nstudy will be conducted at multi-scale level to obtain the information necessary for the development of efficient preventive measures and monitoring techniques. Corrosion in fused salts will be the main action axis oriented to elucidate the role of temperature in the thermal stability of the electrolyte and the dealloying process responsible of most failures.

The study will involve:

  • Micro-electrochemical studies for environment characterisation.
  • Impedance and voltammetry for macroscopic characterisation of the metal-electrolyte interfaces as a function of time of exposure.
  • SECM and LEIS for microscopic characterisation of the metal-electrolyte interfaces.
  • Impedance for real time monitoring.

Research areas:

Chemistry (CHE)

Information Science and Engineering (ENG)

The University of Vigo (UVigo) is a public Spanish university located in Galicia (Northwest Spain). It comprises 3 campuses, the main one in Vigo, and two more in Pontevedra (30 Km from Vigo) and Ourense (95 Km from Vigo).

Its activities are funded by the Spanish and Galician governments (structural and competitive funding) as well as through financing obtained from RDI activities (private contracts, collaborations with industry, patents, consultancy, etc.).

In the last years UVigo has enormously increased its scientific output and its capacity to obtain external resources, being listed in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2011 and 2012. In the last 10 years, UVigo has participated in more than 60 EU research projects totalling more than 25 million euros

Elegibility criteria:

  • Only experienced researchers can apply. They should be in possession of a doctoral degree or 4 years of full-time equivalent experience by the call deadline: 12 September 2018.
  • Researchers of any nationality can apply.
  • Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the 12th September 2018.
