The research project is aimed at taking full advantage of the huge amount of biomass that is produced in the surrounding area of the University of Jaén, which is dominated by olive orchards and with a high concentration of olive oil mills and other associated industries. Not only the biomass from olives is considered but the research interests are focused on the conversion of any biomass into added-value products. At the University of Jaén, different agricultural and agroindustrial materials have been used as raw materials for the development of the biorefinery concept, including sugarcane bagasse, rapeseed straw, brewer spent grains, sunflower stalks and, as mentioned above, especially all the by-products from olive tree cultivation and those derived from the olive oil production process. Concerning products, the main ones include biofuels, renewable chemicals and biomaterials. Other topics of interest in which the Group has also been involved are techno-economic and environmental issues related to the development of the biorefinery concept. Researchers willing to pursue a career within a dynamic team, focused on renewable materials and environmental friendly solutions, enjoying a broad network of international collaborations are welcome to present their candidatures.
Interested applicants (PhD holders) should send their CV, Motivation letter and Summary of project proposal (250 words) to the UJA potential proposal supervisor by the hosting offer deadline. Please, take into account that only candidates that meet the MSCA-IF 2021 application requirements according to the Funding & Tenders Portal (such as the so-called ‘mobility rule’) will be considered for proposal supervision.
