Description

Postdoc position on Lab-on-a-chip devices for point-of-care diagnostics

The Chemical Transducers Group (GTQ), a TECNIO centre at the Barcelona Institute of Microelectronics (IMB-CNM, CSIC), is seeking candidates for the TecnioSpring Industry program (co-financed by H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions). Successful candidates will be granted a 2 year contract (€58,500/year). Deadline for proposals is September 2019.

Description:

We seek researcher candidates with experience in microfluidics to lead the development of point-of-care diagnostic devices based on a patented lab-on-a-chip technology. Prototypes implementing ELISA-like assays for the detection of proteins and DNA have already been demonstrated. The candidate is expected to optimize the technology and validate the resulting devices in clinically relevant applications. We are particularly interested in applications with impact on the fight against antimicrobial resistance global problem. The position is technology-transfer oriented. High motivation to work on real product development is a must. Interested candidates may contact César Fernández (cesar.fernández@imb-cnm.csic.es) or Antonio Baldi (antoni.baldi@imb-cnm.csic.es) to discuss the details and possibilities of submitting a project proposal to the TecnioSpring call.

Requirements:

  • Hold a doctoral degree and two additional years of full-time research experience after obtaining it; or have at least six years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training, after obtaining the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate.
  • The candidate must not have resided or carried out her/his main activity (work, studies) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for the submission of applications. As an exception, only for properly detailed and justified career breaks, experienced researchers will be eligible if they have not resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 3 years in the 5 years immediately prior to the deadline for submission of proposals.

About the host group:

The GTQ is an interdisciplinary research group belonging to the IMB-CNM with a long history of applied research in the field of (bio)chemical sensors and lab-on-a-chip systems. It is located at the UAB campus, just 30 minutes from Barcelona center by train. We have always maintained a good environment and atmosphere in the lab for optimizing both the efficiency of the research work and the wellbeing of the group members. Currently, we hold the ISO9001 certificate as a research group, which gives us a competitive edge in technology transfer projects. We are also proud of having participated in the development of various devices currently in the market.
