Seeking post-doc fellow in Social Choice – Prevention of drug use and gambling in the teenager’s population in Spain: The information paradox (INFOPREV)

Professor Angel Belzunegui Eraso director of Social & Business Research Laboratory (sociology section) at Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain) is interested in receiving Expressions of Interest of potential candidates for the Marie Sklodowska – Curie Individual Fellowship (MSCA – IF) 2020 call. Selected candidates will receive dedicated support from our group to write a successful proposal.

The overarching goal of our research group is to is to link the prevalence of drugs abuse (legal and illegal) and gambling in teenagers between 14 and 18 years old, along with the information that they receive about those issues. Regards to the latter, out target is to identify the sources of information and evaluate the quality of the information that they receive about it.

For the Marie Curie IF call of 2020, we are looking for a postdoc with experience in prevention of substances use and abuse, and gambling in adolescents to carry out field research (interviews, discussion groups, etc.). Furthermore, we would like that the candidate develops new models and theories within this framework (such as cooperative games, strategic games, claims problems).

The main target of the project is to detect risk and protection factors regards to substance abuse and gambling in teenagers. In addition, a gender perspective is included to generate recommendations for intervention strategies based on high-quality information to reduce substance use, and to promote healthy lifestyles among adolescents. Moreover, some guides of good practices have been developed about health in adolescence, substance use and gambling in order to guide professionals that work with adolescents and youth.

The last aim of the project is to make public the evolution of the project execution, as well as the main results. Our target is to persuade institutions to they develop measures to tackle problems such as the use and abuse of drugs in adolescents with the purpose of raising their awareness about the dangers of using and abusing drugs and their consequences. Moreover, we contribute to develop high-quality information addressed to the teenagers.

We are looking for talented and innovative young scientists, strongly committed with research about substance use and abuse and gambling in teenagers. We expect that the candidate would be able to add new insights. Only candidates with an outstanding record of research achievements and publications in top-quality journals will be considered. The candidate should be experienced in in the analysis of substance abuse and gambling in teenagers, prevention of substance abuse programs and fluent level of the Spanish language is also required.

URV as Hosting Institution located at Scientific Campus of Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain), has all the technical and scientific facilities for carry out this project.

At the deadline for the submission of the proposals (09/09/2020), researchers:

  • Shall be in possession of a doctoral degree or 4 years of full-time equivalent experience;
  • Must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish (both written and spoken).
