Description

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LISTis interested in hosting a postdoctoral fellow within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship programme.

Please note that this opportunity is not a funded position (yet); it depends on

     1. The organization selecting you for continuing the process and

     2. A successful proposal written mostly by you (with some input from your host organization

in Luxembourg) and submitted before September 15th 2021.

Project idea

The evolution of Knowledge Graphs (KG), cornerstone for the Semantic Web, is becoming a real problem due to their size and the dynamic nature of Web data. In this project the goal is to define methods and tools based on a combination of statistical techniques (from machine learning) with symbolic techniques (from knowledge representation) to:

  1. Detect relevant change requirements based on data provenance, evolution rates, etc.
  2. Design and implement an efficient and scalable mechanism to update KGs while preserving the structural and logical properties of the KGs, as well as content history by explaining changes.

Offer Requirements

LIST is looking for a motivated postdoctoral English speaking candidate interested in artificial intelligence and its application to Semantic Web technologies such as knowledge graphs. The candidate must have a PhD in computer science with a solid track record in Semantic Web and knowledge representation as well as a good knowledge of machine learning techniques.

Institute description

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a mission-driven Research and Technology Organization (RTO) that develops competitive and market-oriented product/service prototypes for public and private stakeholders. With its 600 employees, 75% of whom are researchers or innovation experts from all around the world, LIST is active in the fields of informatics, materials and environment and works across the entire innovation chain: fundamental/applied research, incubation and transfer of technologies. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST is about empowerment:

  • We empower European citizens in their choices
  • We empower public authorities in their decisions
  • We empower businesses in their strategies

The IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) department, with its 100 researchers and engineers, focuses on the digital transformation of operations in organizations with traditional environments and digital ecosystems, with the aim of improving their performance and innovation capacity. The common thread throughout ITIS is to develop the most efficient use of big data to ensure the most appropriate decision-making processes. The department relies on the Data Analytics Platform: a hybrid infrastructure covering the entire range of data analytics activities.

The platform is based on three pillars:

  • a high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure
  • a cognitive analytics pillar
  • an interactive visualization wall (Viswall).

About Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship

The MSCA PF are postdoctoral fellowships, financed through the European Commission for 2 year positions, covering salary and research costs of the researchers, who can come from anywhere in the world. The evaluation process of these programmes is more about the project and the career development of the candidate, than his/her publication record. The organizations in Luxembourg that want to host such talented researchers include large public research organizations as well as private companies that offer interesting job perspectives after completion of the fellowship.

Minimal eligibility criteria

  • Individual: applicant applies together with host institute
  • PhD at the deadline (PhD date cannot be more than 8 years ago)
  • Not working or living in Luxembourg for longer than 12 months before the call deadline
  • For rules see here or contact your NCP
