Description

There will be a vacancy at the Department of Language and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark for a professorship in Language, Interaction, and Cognition with effect from 1 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: February 28th, 2017.

In accordance with the Department’s strategic plan, there is a desire to further develop research in cognition. The special focus of area is on the intersection between cognition and different aspects of the language sciences. While applicants with a profile in cognitive science are encouraged, their research should also be compatible with the themes of linguistic interaction, interpersonal communication, cognitive psychology, problem-solving psychology, and embodied/ecological cognitive science and linguistics. Applicants should therefore demonstrate an original and broad set of research qualifications where the cognitive, the linguistic and the interactional are approached from different vantage points.

It is a requirement for the appointment that the professor has a strong visible presence at the Department, participating actively in its teaching and research environments.

Areas of responsibility include:

• Research (including the obligation to publish and disseminate scientific output) and teaching in language, interaction and cognition

• Curriculum development within the area of language, interaction and cognition

• Building up a stimulating, productive research environment in the field of cognitive research, including the initiation of major research projects

• Outreach and popular dissemination activities

• Procurement of external research grants

• Establishment of international cooperative relations around relevant research themes

Emphasis will be placed on applicants’ teaching experience and research qualifications, including a high degree of original scientific production at international level in the field of language, interaction and cognition.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, an interview may be applied.

Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programs.

Employment shall be on the terms specified in the labour market agreement and the salary shall correspond to LR 37 (pay bracket 37) annually DKK 536.665,33 plus pension (1st April 2016 level). To this must be added a non-pension-qualifying supplement of DKK 52.935,93 (1st April 2016 level) from the executive pool.
