Description

Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6,5 billion.

Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies (UCRS) was inaugurated on January 1, 2010, as part of the government’s strategic initiative in the research field “politically important geographic regions.” At UCRS, there is a permanent staff of researchers, but many more are associated with the Centre for varying periods of time – from both other departments and other institutions of higher learning, in Sweden and abroad.

UCRS is a multi-disciplinary research unit that transcends boundaries between law, humanities and social sciences. It provides an innovative research environment striving to achieve excellence within three thematic areas, namely, State and Market, Identity Formation and Russia and the Post-Soviet area. At the moment UCRS is home to close to 40 researchers.

The Centre is an integrated multi-disciplinary long-term research program with an in-depth focus on recent developments in Russia, and in the post-Soviet space. It is designed to meet the highest international standards of scientific excellence and functioning as a national resource center. Given its broad multi-disciplinary scope, grounded in common interests amongst participating scholars, UCRS is a research platform flexible in adapting and adjusting to emerging new realities that call for new approaches.

Working in Sweden:  Sweden is a fantastic place for living and working. Swedes are friendly and speak excellent English. The quality of life is high, with a strong emphasis on outdoor activities. The Swedish working climate emphasizes an open atmosphere, with active discussions involving both junior and senior staff. Postdocs are full-time employees, with standard salaries and paid holiday. Spouses of employees are entitled to work permits. Healthcare is free after a small co-pay and the university subsidizes athletic costs, such as a gym membership. The parental benefits in Sweden are among the best in the world, including extensive parental leave (for both parents), paid time off to care for sick children, and affordable daycare. Read more about living in Uppsala
