About you: You are a highly motivated Ph.D. graduate looking to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship (particularly MSCA-PF, but also Humboldt Research Fellowship, Leopoldina Postdoc Scholarship, ...) in the Organ-on-Chip field, seeking a suitable host institution. You have excellent documented research expertise in stem cell biology, neuroscience, microfluidics, biosensing, or another topic applicable to Organ-on-Chip research. You are excited about interdisciplinary applications of engineering to gain insights into biology, especially relating to neuropsychiatric disorders (NPD; e.g. schizophrenia), and wish do develop your skills in that direction. Your specific interests & ideas could include development/characterization of:

  • Stem cell-based biological models of NPD, e.g. blood-brain barrier, gut-brain axis, ...

  • Microfluidic systems to better recapitulate the in-vivo environment

  • Sensors for continuous monitoring of biological function

Related research ideas, e.g. toward Lab-on-a-Chip/point-of-care applications, may also be considered.

The hosting offer: The new μ4Life research group – established by a former MSCA-IF grantee – has the goal of solving life science challenges using microsystems tools. The group is based at PVZ & IMT (see below), which offer state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for both biology and microengineering. As part of a small and dynamic team, you will be able to benefit from supportive and personalized supervision, including also the application phase. Secondments (where applicable), especially to Stockholm, can be facilitated.

To express your interest: Please contact Dr. Thomas E. Winkler (applications@lab.winkler.site) well in advance of any applicable fellowship application deadline. A complete Expression of Interest will include the following:

  • Cover letter, clearly stating your motivation & research interests for seeking a postdoc in the μ4Life lab (2 pages)

  • Academic CV

If you already have one or more specific research idea(s), you can also include a brief sketch of these. However, this is entirely optional; lack of such a sketch will not be penalized.

About TU Braunschweig:

At the Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ), research focuses on inexpensive, tailor-made medicines and medical devices. It brings together around 100 scientists from diverse institutes & disciplines across the region in a state-of-the-art, collaborative environment.

The Institute of Microtechnology (IMT) is home to a dynamic team working on a range of interdisciplinary subjects in a collaborative environment. A state-of-the-art clean room facility and associated laboratories provide all necessary equipment and support for the fabrication and characterization of novel microsystems.

The Technische Universität Braunschweig is home to an academic community of 20,000 students and 3,700 employees. It is situated at the heart of the Hannover-Braunschweig region, one of the most research-intensive in Europe, with a flair for scientists and their families.

TU Braunschweig is committed to increasing the number of women, and all others who bring additional diversity dimensions, in science and technology, and to supporting their careers.

Please note that personal data and documents related to the application process will be stored electronically.
