The Well-being and Organisational Health (Salud y Bienestar Organizacional SABIO) is a multuidisciplinary research group composed by researchers from the University of Granada (Spain) focused on both the study of the new and emergent psychosocial risks and the impact of them over vulnerable groups.

Members of the group have more than 150 publications (academic journals, books and chapters), 17 PhD thesis and participate in several international research projects such as:

  • Participative Prevention of Psychosocial Emergent Risks in SMEs (European Commission. VS/2013/0357)
  • Business Ethics: Normativity and Economic Behavior ( Spanish Ministry of Innovation and Science. FFI2014-56391)
  • Organizational Health and Psychosocial Risks in firms of Guayas Region (Ecuador (University of Guayaquil Fund. FCI-011)
  • Digital Humanities and Social Sciences (Bio-TIC Campus of International Excellence)

The research group has a specific branch in the Doctoral Program in Social Sciences and coordinate the Master in Occupational Health and Safety at the University of Granada.

Finally, the group participates in various activities of dissemination and patronage such as Banco Santander Chair and has networks with other research groups especially from Europe (UK, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Greece) and America (USA, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador).

The group is located at the School of Work Sciences of the Uiversity of Granada in the center of the historic city of Granada.

The research project “New hazards, New Workers: Health Safety and Wellbeing in Immigrant workers” intends to explore and know the different emerging psychosocial risks in one of the most vulnerable social groups in our societies: the immigrant workers.

The current tendency to underegulate labour markets in the world, the pressure to get work done on time and the wake of the current last economic crisis have a negative impact on the health and well-being of workers. With the constantly changing context in the political, socioeconomic, cultural, and technological spheres, new occupational hazards have materialized that are extremely likely to harm the mental, social, and physical health of workers. All of these factors are a source of health problems for many workers.

However, this environment is worse for migrant workers where we can find a much higher level of vulnerability for several reasons (living in isolation conditions, speaking a foreign language that they don’t understand at all and working in poor conditions in the most unqualified, flexible and unskilled jobs).

But migration is not a temporary or local issue and will be a hot point in the next decades. In the case of Europe, more than 11% of workforce is foreign-born (OECD 2011) and, additionally, there are an unknown number of irregular or undocumented migrants.

The main goal of this project is to investigate the emergent psychosocial risk in migrant workers, comparing the data among European countries and promoting and launch a set of different tools that can reduce their possible negative impacts.
