Brief description of the institution:
The University of Granada (UGR), founded in 1531, is one of the largest and most important universities in Spain. It serves more than 60000 students per year, including many foreign students, as UGR is the leader host institution in the Erasmus program. UGR, featuring 3650 professors and more than 2000 auxiliary personnel, offers a total of 75 degrees through its 112 departments and 28 centers.
UGR is also a leading institution in research, located in the top 5/10 of Spanish universities by a variety of ranking criteria, such as national R&D projects, fellowships awarded, publications, or international funding. UGR is one of the few Spanish Universities listed in the Shanghai Top 500 ranking (http://www.arwu.org/), and it is also well recognized for its web presence (http://www.4icu.org/top200/).
Internationally, we bet decidedly by our participation in the calls of H2020, both at partner and coordination. For the duration of the Seventh Framework Programme, the UGR has obtained a total of 66 projects, with total funding of 17.97 million euros, and for H2020, until 2015, more than 25 projects with total funding of more than 6 million euros. Our more than 3,000 researchers are grouped into 365 research groups covering all scientific fields and disciplines.
Brief description of the Centre/Research Group
The Research Centre for Information and Communications Technologies of the University of Granada (CITIC-UGR) is a multidisciplinary institution addressing several relevant scientific and technological challenges, with a clear focus on transferring ground-breaking knowledge to the productive sector and training novel researchers to become the present and future engines of socio-economic growth. In doing so, CITIC-UGR brings together leading researchers in ICT of the University of Granada, which is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world in the field of Computer Science, being pioneer in this area in Spain. BEHAVE.ai - Advanced modelling of human behavior through artificial intelligence and smart sensing
People are growingly less active, isolate more, experience higher stress and eat worse. These lifestyle traits represent a global threat, compromising healthy longevity. We must find effective new means for raising public awareness and changing behavior in order to improve our ability to remain active, healthy, and resilient. To change behavior, a deep comprehension of its root causes is needed though.
This project aims at developing the next generation of intelligent sensing, modelling and analysis methods for the automatic detection of people's physical, emotional, cognitive and social behavior. Behaviors are primarily to be derived from the user interaction with smart wearable and mobile devices, e.g., activity detection, mobility tracking, speech processing or facial expression recognition. Behavioral data will be mined over time to discover relevant patterns and to automatically detect behavior changes demanding prompt or preventive lifestyle interventions. BEHAVE.ai will move beyond the state-of-the-art by approaching the problem in a holistic fashion, thus modelling, inferring and combining the distinct domains of behavior altogether.
We seek highly motivated candidates with a sound theoretical background in statistics, data mining and/or machine learning with a PhD degree in AI, Data Science or similar. Experience with mobile/wearable sensing and automatic behavior recognition is a plus. Good communication skills, strong desire to work in teams, and fluency in English are also needed. As part of BEHAVE.ai, the candidate will have opportunity to collaborate with the on-going initiatives of the H2020 European project Council of Coaches (http://council-of-coaches.eu/).
