The University of Granada (UGR), founded in 1531, is one of the largest and most important universities in Spain. It serves more than 60000 students per year, including many foreign students, as UGR is the leader host institution in the Erasmus program. UGR, featuring 3650 professors and more than 2000 auxiliary personnel, offers a total of 75 degrees through its 112 departments and 28 centers.

UGR is also a leading institution in research, located in the top 5/10 of Spanish universities by a variety of ranking criteria, such as national R&D projects, fellowships awarded, publications, or international funding. UGR is one of the few Spanish Universities listed in the Shanghai Top 500 ranking (http://www.arwu.org/), and it is also well recognized for its web presence (http://www.4icu.org/top200/).

Internationally, we bet decidedly by our participation in the calls of H2020, both at partner and coordination. For the duration of the Seventh Framework Programme, the UGR has obtained a total of 66 projects, with total funding of 17.97 million euros, and for H2020, until 2015, more than 25 projects with total funding of more than 6 million euros. Our more than 3,000 researchers are grouped into 365 research groups covering all scientific fields and disciplines.

Brief description of the Centre/Research Group

 

Our research team is the group on Fundamental Physics and Applications at the Departamento de Física Atómica, Molecular y Nuclear (DFAMN) of the Universidad de Granada. Prof. Antonio M. Lallena, is the responsible of the group. Apart from Prof. Lallena, the group is formed by Drs. Marta Anguiano and Daniel Rodriguez, both Associate Professors at DFAMN, Drs. Damián Guirado, Salvador García-Pareja and José M. de la Vega, medical physicists working in hospitals of the Servicio Andaluz de Salud (Junta de Andalucía), Drs. Raúl A. Rica and Jesús J. Del Pozo, both at DFAMN, and the Ph. D. students Manuel J. Gutiérrez, Francisco Domínguez, Javier Bañuelos, Joaquín Berrocal, Julio F. Almansa, Rafael Guerrero and Luis. I. Zamora.

The research work developed in our group is organized in three main lines: Monte Carlo simulation in Medical Physics, Theoretical Nuclear Structure and Precision Experiments with Ion Traps and Lasers. In the last five years (2013-2017), the group has been founded with 13 projects (regional, national and international) and the scientific production has resulted in 60 publications in scientific journals, 1 patent, and 78 contributions to workshops and conferences. The formation capacity of the group is endorsed by the 6 Ph. D. theses and 18 Master theses that have been supervised by the members of the group. In these years, we have hosted the PostDocs Remí N. Bernard, Raúl A. Rica and Jesús J. DelPozo.

Project description

The research line that the candidate will join is Theoretical Nuclear Structure. This research line is within the collaboration that we maintain with Prof. Co’ and Dr. De Donno (Università del Salento, Italy) since 1987. We have developed a full self-consistent scheme based on Hartree- Fock plus Random Phase Approximation (HF+RPA) for calculating excitations in nuclei. This model uses a finite-range interaction with central, spin, isospin, spin-isospin, tensor and tensorisospin channels, the corresponding Coulomb term (direct and exchange) and two zero range terms, one describing the spin-orbit interaction and the other one consisting in a density dependent term. Both HF and RPA calculations are done using the same interaction. We have extended this approximation including exactly the continuum in the RPA calculation, HF+Continuum RPA, and applied them to charge-exchange excitations. Also, we have developed a HF plus Bardeen-Cooper-Shrieffer (HF+BCS) model using the same interaction for both HF and BCS calculations in order to treat pairing correlations. All the codes developed by our group will be the starting point to carry out this research project.

 

At present we are working on two main goals. First, to extend our model to describe two-nucleon emission induced by electromagnetic probes, considering short-range nucleon-nucleon correlations and maintaining the proper nuclear normalization. Second, to consider chargeexchange Quasi-particle Random Phase Approximation, in order to approach the neutrinoless double beta decay. Our methodology shall use a universal interaction of finite-range, parameter free, reducing the global uncertainty. Furthermore, we shall analyze the role of the tensor force inthis type of phenomenology.
