Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CAMK) invites researchers interested in applying for grants in the field of astronomy/astrophysics from Polish government science funding agency, National Science Centre (NCN).

NCN offers grants in several categories, for researches at various stages of their career, from PhD students to established researchers. Grants can last from 12 to 60 months (typically 36 months), with a "typical" budget of the 3-year grant of 100-200 kEuro (OPUS scheme). The budget of the 5 year grants for established researchers can reach equiv. of 1 mln Euro. Funding can include the PI salary as well as salary for post-doctoral collaborators, scholarships for PhD students, travel, equipment, etc.

This offer is mainly aimed at post-doctoral researchers with at least 3 years of research experience, looking for a place and funds to start independent work, possibly hiring younger collaborators (post-docs, PhD students). The basic assumption is that the grant should include the salary of the PI, and if successful, the PI will receive the job contract with CAMK to pursue research while physically present in Warsaw/Torun (full time, pure research contract).

CAMK is a leading Polish astronomical research institute. Main themes of research are: theoretical high energy astrophysics (compact objects and processes around them), observational astronomy (including infrastructure projects: SALT, H.E.S.S., CTA, Virgo/LIGO), computational astrophysics (stellar dynamics, dwarf galaxies, magnetic reconnection processes).

The next deadline for applications for NCN grants is 15 June 2018.
