Description
Description
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team researching sustainable development in China. You will be part of the Sustainability, Economics, and Ethics (SEE) Research Group at IQS School of Management, Universitat Ramon Llull (IQS-URL), ranked #17 in the 2022 QS World University Ranking by subject in Business and Management Studies. You will join other PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers working on the Horizon Europe Project PoPMeD-SuSDeV, which is a collaborative effort involving partners from Germany, Slovenia, and China. You will be based in Barcelona, Spain, but will also conduct research stays of up to twelve months at prestigious research centers in China, Germany, and Slovenia.
Required Qualifications/Skills
Candidates can be of any nationality but must not hold a PhD yet and meet the following requirements:
- Have a master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, or similar, completed the between 1 January 2021 and the time of submitting the application. *
- Be proficient in English and have good communication and team skills.
- Have a minimum average grade in your undergraduate studies (or an equivalent degree) equal to or greater than 7.0.
- If your qualifications have been completed outside of Spain, please check your average grades are equivalent to “NOTABLE” or above using the following Table.
Additional Merits
Candidates having any of the following merits will be valued highly:
- Knowledge of Chinese language.
- Demonstrated research on China in Master’s Thesis or publications.
- Experience with Stata, R, MATLAB, and/or Python.
Working Conditions and Entitlements
Selected candidates will receive up to 38.400,00€ to join the Horizon Europe Project PoPMeD-SuSDeV and conduct research stays of up to twelve months between January 2024 and December 2026, paid in addition to any scholarship or grant they may also obtain.
Additionally, selected candidates will have the opportunity to apply for two scholarships in December 2023:
- Joan Oró Fellowship of at least 16.971,64€ annually for the first two years, and 18.183,90€ annually in the third year, plus 3.000,00€ in research and training activities.
- IQS Doctoral Grant of approximately 16.000,00€ annually.

Deadline: 15 June 2023. Pre-selection and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
* Exception to Required Qualification 1: You could apply if you finished your studies between 1 January 2018 and your application's submission. However, you can only do it if, between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2020 and after meeting all the requirements to access PhD studies, you experienced any of these exceptional situations:
• You have been on maternity leave. • You have been the guardian of children under six years of age. • You have been the guardian of someone disabled or with a physical, mental, or sensory disability. • You have suffered from a serious illness or an accident requiring medical leave for 6 months or more. • You have suffered any of the situations provided for in article 1 of Organic Law 1/2004, of 28 December, on comprehensive protection measures against gender violence. • You have been granted refugee status under the terms of the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
