Description
Description
The SustAInLivWork (Centre of Excellence of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Living and Working) project team invites postdoctoral researchers with a track record of significant research achievement to collaborate with supervisors from SustAInLivWork partner institutions (hosting institution Hamburg University of Technology) and apply to the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024 (HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01) within deadline 11/09/2024.
The scheme MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) under the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme is dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges.
MSCA PF grants provide a competitive salary (including mobility and family allowances if applicable), as well as a contribution to cover the cost of research, training and networking activities. The research projects will have 24 or 36 months’ duration, depending on type of fellowship:
- European Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality who wish to engage in R&I projects by either coming to Europe from any country in the world or moving within Europe (duration: 12-24 months).
- Global Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to European nationals or long-term residents who wish to engage in R&I projects with organisations outside EU Member States and Associated Countries (duration 24-36 months (including 12-24 months outgoing phase in a non-associated Third Country & 12 months mandatory return phase to a host organisation in EU Member State or a Associated Country).
RESEARCH GROUP: Medical Technology and Intelligent Systems
Our group focuses on applications of AI – particularly machine learning and robotics – in medicine and healthcare. Research topics range from treatment planning, motion compensation, and robotics in radiation therapy to imaging, computer vision, and image processing in, e.g., radiology, cardiology, and surgery. Currently, we are particularly interested in applying fast volumetric imaging (4D ultrasound and OCT) to estimate motion, deformation, and stiffness of tissue during robotic surgery. Moreover, we maintain collaborations with clinical partners at different institutions, where we typically evaluate our methods in realistic settings.
RESEARCH TOPICS PROPOSED:
- Machine learning for artifact reduction when imaging moving structures
- Machine learning for surgical navigation and decision support
- Explainable AI methods in medicine and healthcare
INFORMATION ABOUT SUPERVISOR:
Alexander Schlaefer (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9201-8854) is a full professor at TUHH where he heads the institute for Medical Technology and Intelligent Systems. He has a background in computer science and a long-standing interest in AI and robotics, particularly for medical applications. Current projects cover topics ranging from fast markerless motion tracking to medical image understanding and robotics, with a number of different clinical applications. He is a senior member of IEEE and a full member of AAPM
ELIGIBILITY:
For HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01 within deadline 11/09/2024 postdoctoral candidates must be in possession of PhD, shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Lithuania for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
An expression of interest shall be sent directly to Alexander Schlaefer (schlaefer@tuhh.de) by noon of 14/06/2024. Contacting the supervisor, please provide
- Curriculum Vitae
- List of publications (significant research achievements)
- Proposal summary
ADDITIONAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:
- For applicants, whose application to the HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01 call fails to reach an adequate place in the ranking to be funded, there is additional funding opportunity – the application will be automatically resubmitted to ERA Fellowships 2024 call.
