ICMAB-CSIC is looking for postdoctoral researchers wanting to apply to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in 2022. ICMAB-CSIC has full experience in MSCA actions. It puts a big effort in MSCA-PF calls, having achieved high success rate in the last years.
The goal of this project is providing a theoretical framework aimed at understanding and controlling the manipulation of heat flux in solids, in order to devise realistic approaches for the engineering of phononic devices. In electronics information is transferred with charge carriers, whose motion can be easily controlled with external fields. This is not the case of phononics, where phonons —the basic particles that carry heat— have no mass or charge: this is why we live in a world of electronic devices and heat is normally regarded as a source of loss. The goal of this project is reversing this viewpoint and move to a new paradigm where heat can be actively used to transfer energy, thus information, in a controllable way.
PI: Riccardo Rurali -- I am a materials scientist, whose main interests revolve around the theoretical modeling of fundamental physical phenomena in condensed matter and nanostructures. My research interests focus on nanoscale thermal transport and on the design of thermal circuits elements.
How to apply
Interested candidates, please send your CV and a brief outline ofthe proposed research project (1 page maximum) to Dr. Riccardo Rurali (firstname.lastname@example.org) before July 15th 2022.
Description of MSCA Post-doctoral fellowships
The objective of PFs is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors. The fellowship typically covers the researcher's salary (living and mobility allowance) for two years, research, training and networking activities costs and overheads for the host institution.
The mobility rule of MSCA PF requires that the researcher (candidate) has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, for ICMAB-CSIC) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline (expected to be September 14th 2022 for call 2022). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible(with possible exceptions).
