Description

ICMAB-CSIC is looking for postdoctoral researchers wanting to apply to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in 2022. ICMAB-CSIC has full experience in MSCA actions. It puts a big effort in MSCA-PF calls, having achieved high success rate in the last years.

This project aims to explore the potential of hybrid magnetic-superconductor metasurfaces to unprecedently control of low-frequency magnetic fields at the micro/nanoscale. The proposed research is in the framework of the European project MetaMagIC (https://metamagic.icmab.es, https://www.chistera.eu/projects/metamagic).

Control of magnetic waves plays an essential role several in emerging technologies. Nowadays, many key devices rely on the precise spatial distribution of static and low-frequency magnetic fields. Some examples include magnetic sensors, harvesters, or devices for wireless charging, which will become undoubtedly key players in future smart and sustainable cities. In all these technologies, there is an increasing need to achieve a precise control of magnetic fields in progressively smaller distance. This research proposes to explore a disruptive approach, based on the design of passive metamaterial structures with tailored magnetic properties, aiming to provide improved efficiently in functional magnetic devices. Straightforward applications of these systems, in form of planar metamaterial shells, will be to boost the performance of low power magnetic sensors and energy harvesting materials for autonomous functional devices, where concentration of magnetic energy play a key role. The candidate will work with advanced nanofabrication techniques for the desig of planar metamaterials coupled with a combination of theory and modeling.

Dr. Anna Palau, tenured scientist at ICMAB. Her areas of expertise include the study of nanostructured materials and nanocomposites with new functionalities for efficient electronic devices. She has a large experience in the field of functional oxides, with special focus on magnetic, superconducting materials, and hybrid systems.

How to apply

Interested candidates, please send your CV and a brief outline ofthe proposed research project (1 page maximum) to Dr. Anna Palau(palau@icmab.es) before July 15th 2022.

Description of MSCA Post-doctoral fellowships

The objective of PFs is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors. The fellowship typically covers the researcher's salary (living and mobility allowance) for two years, research, training and networking activities costs and overheads for the host institution.

Eligibility rules

The mobility rule of MSCA PF requires that the researcher (candidate) has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, for ICMAB-CSIC) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline (expected to be September 14th 2022 for call 2022). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible(with possible exceptions).
