Professor Adelina Sánchez Espinosa, from the Institute for Women’s Studies and Gender at the University of Granada, welcomes postdoctoral candidates interested in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (MSCA-IF) in 2020 at this University. Brief description of the institution:
The University of Granada (UGR), founded in 1531, is one of the largest and most important universities in Spain. The UGR has been awarded with the "Human Resources Excellence in Research (HRS4R)", which reflects the UGR’s commitment to continuously improve its human resource policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The UGR is also a leading institution in research, located in the top 5/10 of Spanish universities by a variety of ranking criteria, such as national R&D projects, fellowships awarded, publications, or international funding.
UGR is one of the few Spanish Universities listed in the Shanghai Top 500 ranking (http://sl.ugr.es/0aw0). The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) places the UGR in 268th position in the world and as the 4th highest ranked University in Spain, reaffirming its position as an institution at the forefront of national and international research. From the perspective of specialist areas in the ARWU rankings, the UGR is outstanding in Documentation (ranked in the 36th in the world) or Food science technology (ranked 37th in the world), Mathematics and Computer Science (ranked among the top 76-100 in the world).
The UGR has 4 researchers at the top of the Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) list in the Computer Science area. With regard to broader subject fields, the UGR is ranked in 45th position in the universities worldwide in the discipline of Engineering. It is also well recognized for its web presence (http://sl.ugr.es/0a6i) taking 36th place in the top 200 Universities in Europe. Internationally, we bet decidedly by our participation in the calls of the Framework Programme of the European Union. For the duration of the last two Framework Programmes, the UGR has obtained a total of 66 projects, with total funding of 18.02 million euros, and for H2020, 80 projects with total funding around 20.6 million euros.
Brief description of the Centre/Research Group
The Institute for Women’s Studies and Gender at UGR fosters research work, specialised teaching and scientific dissemination. Its intensive networking with European and third country universities both at teaching and research level materialised in 2006 with the creation of the GEMMA: Erasmus Mundus Master Degree in Women’s Studies and Gender coordinated by the Institute with the participation of 6 full partners (Universities of Bologna, CEU, York, Lódź, Oviedo, Utrecht), 12 associate partners in America and 30 stakeholders in Gender all over the world.. In 1990 the University of Granada started the first doctoral programme on Women's Studies in a Spanish university. The Institute also hosts Feminae a book series for gender and feminist studies created in 1989 in order to respond to a demand for the dissemination of feminist scientific research. Joint actions/projects with local, autonomic and national Institutions are essential for the financing of activities. The Institute collaborates with Andalusian Institutions such as the Consejería de Igualdad (Andalusian Ministry for Equal opportunities), the Instituto Andaluz de la Mujer; it also works with Andalusian University Centres to foster a field for Gender and Women’s Studies in the Andalusian Research Plan. At a national level the Institute collaborates with the Area for Equality at “Diputación” (Members of Parliament for Granada); Ministry of Social Affairs: Women’s Institute) and the Women and Science Unit (Ministry of Education). The Institute is member the European feminist network ATGENDER.
The research project we propose here is the outcome of an MSCA ITN, GRACE, Gender and Cultures of Equality in Europe which finished in October 2019 and whose aim was to systematically investigate the cultural production of gender equalities within Europe.. GRACE is now a success story https://ec.europa.eu/research/infocentre/article_en.cfm?artid=51785 which treated Horizon 2020 itself as a material site for investigating and testing culture and ‘gender’, by which we meant both ideologies and embodied practices through which femininities, masculinities, transgender and Queer subjectivities are produced. GRACE drew on innovative and interdisciplinary methodologies to investigate under-examined aspects enabling and constraining changing policy and legislative frameworks: 1. How have cultures of equality been produced and visualised in art, media, popular culture, and ‘official’ discourse in Europe? 2. How might cultures of equality in Europe be produced and performed more response-ably? 3. In what ways do changing cultural productions shape people’s responses to social contexts?. Feminist artivism has a long tradition in producing socially-engaged works tackling gender inequalities and ethical approaches to socio-economic development models, hence the need to examine its potential for playing key roles in complimenting scientific and policy approaches to these issues, more specifically: the ways feminist art-based initiatives; feminist close-readings of literary texts and the visualising of gender equality in Europe through visual art and the screen can function as sites for the production of cultures of equality and foster social, cultural and political change towards more reflexive, inclusive societies and response-able societies.
