Project description

This project aims to return to the city its past forgotten, since an effective interdisciplinary approach, and to rehabilitate a space whose existence was always mythical and unreal to the urban history and memory. Data on the Granada Jewish population indicate the existence of a large neighborhood that expects rescue and whose location is still palpable in the street, despite the time and transformations. New technologies applied to the field of geolocation and geospatialization, such as Geographic Information Systems, ensure the detailed study of a passive object that is in serious risk of disappearance by neglect and oblivion. It is not just only to reveal its physical existence with the relevant documentation, but to propose too its value on the urban level and their reintegration into the city as an active cultural space.

Objectives:

1.To identify documentary and cartographically the spaces historically occupied by the Jewish community in the city.

2.To locate, recovery and do the treatment of domestic and urban remnants of our interest, through joint work of philological analysis, archaeological, historical and artistic dating, leading to formal revaluation.

3.This is accompanied by a plan of information and awareness of current users and owners of the areas under study.

4.To reconstruct the history of Judaism in Granada through the identification of its actors.
