Professor José Gijón Puerta, from the Department of Didactics and School Organization at the University of Granada, welcomes postdoctoral candidates interested in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (MSCA-IF) in 2020 at this University. Brief description of the institution:
The University of Granada (UGR), founded in 1531, is one of the largest and most important universities in Spain. The UGR has been awarded with the "Human Resources Excellence in Research (HRS4R)", which reflects the UGR’s commitment to continuously improve its human resource policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The UGR is also a leading institution in research, located in the top 5/10 of Spanish universities by a variety of ranking criteria, such as national R&D projects, fellowships awarded, publications, or international funding.
UGR is one of the few Spanish Universities listed in the Shanghai Top 500 ranking (http://sl.ugr.es/0aw0). The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) places the UGR in 268th position in the world and as the 4th highest ranked University in Spain, reaffirming its position as an institution at the forefront of national and international research. From the perspective of specialist areas in the ARWU rankings, the UGR is outstanding in Documentation (ranked in the 36th in the world) or Food science technology (ranked 37th in the world), Mathematics and Computer Science (ranked among the top 76-100 in the world).
The UGR has 4 researchers at the top of the Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) list in the Computer Science area. With regard to broader subject fields, the UGR is ranked in 45th position in the universities worldwide in the discipline of Engineering. It is also well recognized for its web presence (http://sl.ugr.es/0a6i) taking 36th place in the top 200 Universities in Europe. Internationally, we bet decidedly by our participation in the calls of the Framework Programme of the European Union. For the duration of the last two Framework Programmes, the UGR has obtained a total of 66 projects, with total funding of 18.02 million euros, and for H2020, 80 projects with total funding around 20.6 million euros.
Brief description of the Centre/Research Group
There are currently 12 research groups in the DOE Department, among which is ProfesioLab (SEJ059) to which I belong (I have been Director between 2010 and 2020). This interdisciplinary group includes researchers in the areas of education from the Universities of Granada and Jaén, and international collaborators from European and American universities, such as Wisconsin-Madison, METU University, Ankara, Reims Champagne - Ardenne-. Since its foundation in 2010, the group has developed different lines of research, applying quantitative and qualitative methods, especially the biographical-narrative, and developing professional development actions for teachers of all educational levels. The members of the group have participated in both national and internal projects related to different lines: Early childhood development, (e.g., 3 projects of the Grow Well to Live Well, for the Bolivian government, financed by the IDB -implementation of early stimulation rooms, design of quality standards in preschool education, baseline of child development in Bolivia, personnel selection, etc. -); Competency-based training models in technical and higher education (e.g., projects in Chile, for universities such as INACAP or UC-DUOC, Ministry of Education, DUOC program, financed by the IBRD); Training of teachers of mathematics for the use of ICT / robotics (Costa Rica, financed by the IDB); Entrepreneurship and professional training (e.g., in Spain - Morocco to support entrepreneurs, with ERDF funding, or in Turkey, for the definition of professional qualifications, with EuropeAid funding).
Human-dog interaction in learning spaces and its relation to the well-being of students is a new line of research that we have started, in collaboration with the Library of the University of Granada and with a team of researchers from the biomedical areas of the UGR (Dept. of Legal Medicine, Toxicology and Physical Anthropology and Dept. of Biochemistry) and the University of Almería (Dept. of Psychology and Dept. of Informatics). More specifically, stress and anxiety are analyzed in the exam periods of both undergraduate and graduate students and solutions are proposed to reduce it. Specifically, we are developing the StressLess program, Take my Paws (https://canal.ugr.es/noticia/sin-estres-coge-mis-patas-programa-terapia-...). This line of research delves into the knowledge of stress levels, states of anxiety and psychological problems that higher education students present, especially during exam periods. Aspects that can be addressed within the line are multiple: Establishment of a baseline of stress and anxiety of university students; Measurement of stress levels through questionnaires and physiological variables such as cortisol level; Development and evaluation of the impact of human-animal interaction programs to control stress and anxiety, through the instruments indicated above; o use of human-dog interaction programs to care for specific groups such as people with disabilities, institutionalized or non-institutionalized older adults, sick or hospitalized people, etc. (dog-assisted intervention, dog-assisted therapy, outdoor physical activity with dogs, etc.).
