The Clinical Trial Unit of La Paz University Hospital

The Clinical Trial Unit of La Paz University Hospital (HULP-UICEC) is a research support platform aiming to comprehensively promote and support clinical research at La Paz University Hospital as well as establishing collaboration links with other research centres. The HULP-UICEC has strong experience in managing clinical trials and in gathering and spreading good clinical practices, especially in Phase I trials.

Dr. Alberto Borobia is the Manager of the Clinical Trial Unit of La Paz University Hospital and is willing to receive expression of interest for candidates to develop their research activity in the field of Ethical concerns regarding the interplay of medical practice and clinical research. Design and execution of complex and innovative designed clinical trials poses frequently into question the ethical underlying of the required interventions. They also provide scenarios of conflicting needs in terms of the safeguarding and necessary use of personal databases from either enrolled patients, volunteers or their families. Such a rich scenario lacks of rigorous and proportionately research studies. So, the UICEC could benefit from such a project by moving to a more humane and socially responsible approach to clinical trials.

Dr. Borobia welcomes proposals addressing any topic that pairs ethics integrity in the healthcare system and acceptability of scientific outcomes in the society. The fellow will work closely to both the UICEC and the internal Research Ethics Committee of La Paz University Hospital.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Philosophy or Social Sciences and provide evidence of academic record in health or research ethics. Additionally, MCSA-IF applicants must move to Spain where they cannot have resided or carried out their main professional activity (work, studies, etc.) for more than 36 months in the 5 years immediately prior to the submission deadline (12/09/2019).
