Viikki Campus Life Science Faculties of the University of Helsinki (UH) invites Expressions of Interest (EoI) to apply for Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Individual Fellowship (IF) with University of Helsinki as the host organisation. The call is aimed at individual, trans-national fellowships awarded to the best or most promising researchers of any nationality. We invite fellows who envisage the University of Helsinki as their host institution to be part of our application support program.

Potential candidates for further interactions will be selected by the Principal Investigators in the Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. They will be invited to a MSCA IF workshop arranged in Helsinki, early May 2020 (Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed). Final selected candidates will also receive support and coaching in the application process by experienced advisors of UH.

Deadline for submission of your EoI: 2nd February 2020.

Why to choose the University of Helsinki for your career?

The University of Helsinki is one of the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world, consistently ranking in the top 100 of international university rankings. It is an international academic community of 40,000 students and staff members operating on four campuses in Helsinki and in 9 other localities in Finland. The University of Helsinki is extensively involved in national and international research infrastructures. International researchers choose the University of Helsinki for its excellent reputation in the most competed and esteemed grants such as ERC grants, honours and prizes awarded to our researchers. Arrival and family support will be arranged to employees from abroad for their transition to work and life in Finland.

Viikki Campus is the largest Life Science Campus in Finland, a community of 1,900 high-quality forward-looking experts in teaching and research and 6,000 students in the Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine. These four Faculties work in close collaboration with several cross-faculty and cross-campus networks: HiLIFE Helsinki Institute of Life Science, an institute which supports high quality life science research, HELSUS Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science, a research unit in sustainability science.

Cross-disciplinary networks and projects connecting several organisations are directed from Viikki campus, such as HOH Helsinki One Health, a research network to resolve emerging health problems concerning animal and human populations worldwide, Thriving Nature –project, which strengthens the University of Helsinki’s profile in research into biological resilience, Finnish Platform for Pharmaceutical Research network FinPharma, and The Viikki Plant Science Centre (ViPS), a virtual research environment combining 260 researchers and 39 research groups. National research institutes on the Viikki Campus include the Finnish Food Authority, Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and Luke Natural Resources Institute Finland.

The Campus has up-to-date research infrastructures and skilled support staff to enable high-quality research. The Campus hosts Life Science Research Infrastructures, e.g. Integrated structural cell biology research infrastructure (ESFRI Instruct-ERIC), Plant Growth Facilities, a network of Research Stations and Veterinary Teaching Hospital which provides extensive clinical veterinary database and clinical research environment, and Viikki Research Farm, an urban part of the Research Stations’ network.

For research topics and Principal Investigators interested in supervising and hosting MSC researchers, please see Viikki Campus Call for Expressions of Interest to apply for MSCA-IF.
