Description

  1. Research / Project Description

Are you looking for real opportunities to boost your professional career, improve your training in highly-demanded areas of expertise while gaining more professional independence? Would you like to work on a healthy and stimulating environment in collaboration with worldwide researchers and widely known industrial partners? We are looking for highly motivated postdoc candidates aiming to apply for MSCA Individual Fellows (IF) with UDC (Spain) as your hosting institution.

We have multiple engaging projects you can choose from to apply the latest research advances in computer graphics and deep learning to problems ranging from advanced rendering using ray-tracing, optimization of videogame technologies in latest mobile hardware, real-time denoising, perceptually-motivated volume compression, photorealistic image synthesis for computer vision and autonomous vehicles or disrupting neural image generation methods leveraging on AI and neural networks. We are always keen on discussing new and original research ideas.

If you have either strong computer science, engineering, or mathematical background and plenty of motivation to take upon this challenge, we would be very keen on knowing about you and cooperating to achieve for you one of the highly recognized European Individual Fellowships for research, the MSCA-IF.

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions - Individual Fellowships are available for experienced researchers, of any nationality, who must have, at the date of the call’s deadline, a doctoral degree or at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.

Keywords: Computer Graphics, Deep Learning, Ray-Tracing, Mobile Devices, Virtual Reality, Scientific Visualization, Synthetic Image Generation for AVs.

  1. Research areas (as established in MSCA):

• Information Science and Engineering (ENG)

• Mathematics (MAT)

• Physics (PHY)

  1. Brief description of the Centre / Research Group:

The hosting institution will be the University of A Coruña (UDC) and the Centre for Information and Communications Technology Research (CITIC).

The University of A Coruña (UDC) is a young and vibrant Spanish Public University established in 1989 and located in the city of A Coruña, Galicia (Spain). Currently, UDC counts with more than sixteen thousand students distributed on two main campuses, A Coruña, and Ferrol.

The Centre for Information and Communications Technology Research (CITIC) is a research center that promotes the advancement and excellence in R&D&i in the use of ICTs. The CITIC is a meeting point between the University and companies that unites R&D departments of companies in the ICT sector with researchers from the University.

The Principal Investigator (PI) at UDC would be Jose A. Iglesias-Guitian, who belongs to the CITIC areas of Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing. He joined UDC through the InTalent UDC-Inditex and the “Ramón y Cajal” national research programs. The PI has worked at Disney Research, part of The Walt Disney Company (UK) where he obtained a Disney Inventor Award and 3 patents with Pixar/Disney. In his international career, he was awarded 3 Marie Curie fellowships with different modalities. He worked at the Computer Vision Center in Barcelona (CVC/UAB), Univ. of Zaragoza (Spain), and CRS4 (Italy). The PI usually collaborates through an international network of specialists with strong academic and industrial backgrounds, some of them who worked at well-known institutions like Adobe, Disney, EPFL, EA, Huawei, Intel, KAIST, NASA, Toyota Research Institute, Sony, Unity, Univ. of Zurich, etc.

If you want to know more about Galicia, the green and unique region of Spain where UDC is located, you can have a small taste of it watching this video.
