FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellowship

The United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) cordially welcomes postdoctoral researchers looking to conduct a period of research in Belgium through the FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme.

Located in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bruges, close to Brussels and many institutions of the European Union. Postdoctoral Fellows at UNU-CRIS will not only find themselves embedded within the global United Nations University network, which directly supports the broader UN system, but will also be able to take advantage of a unique partnership that UNU-CRIS has with both Ghent University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Postdoctoral Fellows will furthermore be provided with an office, along with a computer and free access to both the UNU-CRIS library facilities and those of its partner universities.

We welcome researchers focusing on the role of the United Nations in the effort to create and maintain peace and stability. We also welcome applications focusing on the challenges to global or regional governance in line with one of the three research programs of the Institute:

• The Role of Regions in Global Governance
• The United Nations and Regional Public Goods
• The Changing Patterns of Regional and Global Governance

Eligibility

FWO Junior Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality, who must have:

1. obtained/will obtain their PhD between 1 October 2016 and 1 June 2019.
2. have not previously received a similar fellowship (not even in part).

1. CV (maximum 4 sides of A4)
2. Personal Statement (1 side of A4) this must include; your motivation and research interests, scientific track record and competences and how these fit with the proposed research project, a clear overview of skills already developed, as well as competences to be acquired, related to how you envision the development of your future career.
3. Research plan, which includes; title of the research proposal, background and aims, demonstration of state-of-the-art, research questions, methods, timeline and dissemination plan (maximum of 10 sides of A4, not including references)
4. University transcripts

Applicants whose research fits with the thematic priorities of the Institute will be assigned an eligible supervisor, provided with a letter of recommendation, and will be guided through the online application process by a dedicated Grant Officer. The deadline for final proposals is 3 December 2018. If successful, the Fellowship period will commence between 1 October and 1 November 2019. The duration of the Fellowship will be 36 months. Gross salary scales start at €4,053.81/month rising to a possible maximum of €6,319.49/month.
