Description

We are looking for candidates to apply to IBIMA’s research positions, funded by La Caixa “Incoming Doctoral INPhINIT Fellowships” call 2023 (https://fundacionlacaixa.org/en/inphinit-doctoral-fellowships-incoming). Clicking on this link you will find the call’s guidelines (including application rules and conditions).

The offer:

  • Hosting institution: Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Málaga (IBIMA. Plataforma BIONAND), Málaga (Spain)
  • Leader: PhD. Maria Rosa Bernal López
  • Study area: Internal Medicine
  • Title: Secoiridoids from olive as nutritional therapy in systemic lupus erythematosus: Mitochondrial and multi-omic (epigenetic and transcriptomic) analysis. SerLES Study
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Grant amount: Up to 125.400 € + training

Activity and Training: Dietary factors (polyphenolic compounds) have an important modulatory activity of the epigenome. These are essential for the normal development and function of the immune system, so these mechanisms seem to be involved in the etiopathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Our previous results highlighted the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects of diets enriched with olive secoiridoids (SEC), most abundant polyphenols of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). However, their therapeutic and epigenome and mitochondrial modulating potential in human SLE is unknown. The main objective of this project is the pharmaceutical development of a new nutraceutical that includes SEC-enriched EVOO and its clinical validation through a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled nutritional intervention study with individuals with SLE.

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.
  • Hold a higher education degree that makes them eligible to enrol in a doctoral programme.
  • Have resided in Spain for less than 12 months in the last 3 years.
  • Demonstrable level of English (B2 or higher).

Desired candidate profile:

  • Student in Life Sciences or Biomedicine
  • Desired education level 1: Epidemiology, Medicine, Health Sciences, psychology…
  • Desired experience (not essential):
    • Main research field: Personalized Cardiometabolic Medicine
    • Sub-research field: Lifestyle Modification, Health, Immunomediated Disease
    • Techniques/skills: Knowledge on the scientific method; Monitoring and management of the different procedures for data collection and entry in electronic notebooks of different protocols; Knowledge on laboratory techniques and handling and processing of biological samples; Knowledge on database completion; Compliance with the standards of good clinical practice (GCP); Team and individual work skills.
