Group and project information

Project: Continuous monitoring of two-dimensional mechanical stresses of living biological tissues

Mechanical tension and stresses are considered key factors associated to the control of the growth and proliferation of tumoral cells and tissues. The quantification and monitoring of such stresses would help to better understand cancer development. However, there is no current system available for monitoring of the cellular mechanical properties.

The overall goal of this project is the design, development, fabrication and proof of application of an advanced nanosystem for the continuous in vitro monitoring and quantification of two-dimensional mechanical stresses of living biological tissues. The basic principle will be a two-dimensional force sensor based on advanced photonic structures.

Skills/qualifications

- Experience with the design, modelling, fabrication, characterisation and testing of photonic nanosystems

- Experience in bio-nanotechnology

- Excellent writing skills in English

- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment
