Outline

This project will involve the application of atomistic and quantum chemistry simulation to understand the mechanism of glycerol and related alcohols over the surface of oxide catalysts.

This forms part of a larger research programme to understand how this important by-product of biodiesel production can be transformed into useful chemicals.

The research team has both computational and experimental aspects so that results from the simulations will be used to help drive catalyst discovery.

You should hold a first degree in chemistry, physics or a related discipline at the 2:1 or 1st class honours level. A keen interest in the application of computer simulation to chemical properties and reactivity will be essential.
