Project Description

Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships 2 (KESS2) is a pan-Wales higher-level skills initiative led by Bangor University on behalf of the Higher Education sector in Wales.

It is part-funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) West Wales and the Valleys programme, by partners from the West Wales and the Valleys areas of Wales, and by Cardiff University.

This project will investigate bacteriocin production by probiotic bacteria, looking at both their usefulness as antimicrobial agents and, by investigation of their cell cycle, means of optimising bacterial production of these valuable metabolites.

This project will afford you excellent training across a number of disciplines including bacterial cell culture, antimicrobial testing and expression profiling. It will be based in two centres, at Cardiff University and at Cultech Ltd giving you valuable experience of working in both academic and industrial research settings
