Outline

The School of Law and Politics, supported by the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership of Wales (DTP), invites applicants for PhD study, with the possibility of being awarded a fully-funded ESRC DTP Studentship, available to start October 2018.

We are expecting to make doctoral studentship awards in the area of empirical studies in law and socio-legal studies.

This area of research brings together methods from social science to address legal challenges in society and inform policy development. The ESRC has recognised the importance of such scholarship but also the lack of scholars trained in socio-legal skills. This programme seeks to fill that gap.

What is funded

Full UK/EU tuition fees and Doctoral stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum.

Duration

Studentships are available as either 1+3 (ie one full year of research training master's followed by three years of full time doctoral study, or the part-time equivalent) or +3 (i.e. three years of full-time doctoral study or its part-time equivalent), depending on the needs of the applicant.

Eligibility

UK Research Council eligibility conditions apply.

Applications are invited from exceptional candidates with a first class degree or upper second class honours degree, or appropriate master’s degree.
