About
There is an open call for applications for a Research Grant (IB) under the project "PTDC/CVT-CVT/5046/2021 - Canine intestinal organoids as a model for inflammatory bowel disease" under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Veterinary Medicine
Recipients: Research Grant is aimed at registered candidates or candidates who meet the necessary conditions to enrol in a cycle of studies leading to the award of an academic degree or in a course not conferring an academic degree.
Eligibility of Applicants: The following are eligible to apply to the present competition: National citizens or citizens from other Member-States of the European Union; Citizens from third countries; Stateless persons; Citizens benefiting from political refugee status.
Admissibility Requirements for Applicants:
Candidates may apply to this competition if they hold a Master's degree in
- Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or related areas
- Experience in cellular models and laboratory routine
- Be regularly enrolled in a PhD course in Portugal
Plan of work:
Biological material: canine intestinal organoids
Experimental procedure: perform actions to isolate and maintain canine intestinal organoids for use as an experimental model of inflammatory bowel disease in dogs.
Legislation and regulations applicable:
Research Grant Holder Statute (EBI), approved by Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August, in its current wording published by Decree-Law no. 123/2019 of 28 August Research Grant Regulations, no. 950/2019 of 16-12-2019, of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. - in force.
Venue: The work will be carried out at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universidade Lusófona, under the scientific supervision of Professor André Meneses (FMV ULHT, Portugal) and co-supervision of Professors Bart Spee (Utrecht University - The Netherlands) and Pedro Carvalho (EUVG - Coimbra, Portugal).
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have an initial duration of 12 months, extendable for up to 23 months, starting in January 2023.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant is 1144,64 euros, according to the table of values in the Regulation of Scientific Research and Management Support Grants. Payment will be made by bank transfer.
Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curricular evaluation and letter of application, followed by an interview in case of qualitative similarity between two or more candidates.

Publication/Notification of results The final results of the evaluation will be published, through a list sorted by final mark obtained posted in a visible and public place of the Lusófona University. The approved candidate will be notified by email.
Application period: The competition is open from 29 November to 21 December, 2022.
Form of presentation of applications: Applications should be formalised by sending a letter of application (maximum 1 page), showing the candidate's interest and suitability for the proposed work plan, accompanied by the following documents Curriculum vitae (including final grades obtained in all academic degrees), qualifications certificates and other supporting documents considered relevant.
