Duration

The grant has duration of 3 months, with possible extension up to 6 months, starting on April 1, 2023.

 

Eligibility

The following may apply to this Call for Proposals: National citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union; Citizens of third countries; Stateless persons; Citizens benefiting from political refugee status.

Generic scientific area: Computer Science

Specific scientific area: Informatic and Image Processing

Admission requirements: a) to be enrolled in a higher professional technical course, a bachelor’s degree, an integrated master's degree or a master's degree, or be licensed and be enrolled in a non-awarding course of academic degree integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more units of R&D; b) not to exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of one year of having this type of scholarship, continuous or intermittent; c) not have already been a beneficiary of any other research grant directly or indirectly financed by FCT.

Work plan: The candidate will develop new technological solutions to support Amblyopia related visual disorders, by stimulation of the visual system, favoring correct combined ocular images processing , leading to the mitigation or, even, the correction of the visual disorder, while stimulating the amblyope and the non-amblyope eyes. The stimulation will be accomplished through the presentation of independent image renders to each eye, motivating the visual system to process simultaneously both images in order to achieve a predetermined objective. In parallel, the candidate will also develop a difficulty engine, to ensure the proposed challenges are aligned with patient’s evolution. The technological solution should enable patient mobility, solution massification and low cost, as means to make it available to the majority of families, independently of their geography or economic status.

Workplace: The work will be developed at COPELABS, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Pedro Serra and Prof. João Pedro Carvalho.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to €541.12, according to the table of values of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, IP in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_202…). The scholarship will be paid monthly on the last working day of each month by bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: - Curriculum Vitae [40%]; - Level of knowledge in the field of Telecommunications, with an emphasis on the work in the planed area [30%].; interview [30%]..  The Selection Jury composition: 1. Form of announcement/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published in an alphabetically ordered list, posted in a visible and public place at COPELABS, and the scholarship winner will be notified by email. Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The tender is opened from 06-03-2023 until 17:00 on 20-03-2023. Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by sending an application letter accompanied with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, Motivation Letter, Certificate of Qualifications, copy of identification document and other documents that verify to what is reported in the candidate’s CV.
