About IMol:

The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines (IMol) Polish Academy of Sciences, is a new and vibrant institute constituted in partnership with University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany and University of Warsaw, Poland. IMol offers an international, interdisciplinary, and modern Ph.D. program for young scientists in the fields of biological, chemical, medical, biotechnological, bioinformatics, biophysical and pharmacological sciences. We provide innovative training, guidance and mentoring in an international “open door” environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

 

About the job:

IMol invites highly motivated scientists to apply for a four-year, fully-funded PhD position in Dr Nicola De Franceschi group.

 

You will have the chance to work at the design and implementation of synthetic nanomachines aimed at reshaping membranes, ultimately reconstituting entire organelles by an in vitro bottom-up approach. You will learn a unique set of skills in the fields of membrane biophysics and bottom-up synthetic biology, using approaches and tools such as light-sheet microscopy, A.I.-based image analysis, Giant Unilamellar Vesicles (GUVs), and more. The result from your work are expected to unveil fundamental biophysical principles governing the biogenesis and maintenance of membrane-bound organelles. 

Starting date: June 1st, 2023 (or as soon as possible).

 

Profile of candidates/requirements: 

- MSc in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, physics, chemistry or related discipline

- Excellent communication skills in English

 

Key responsibilities: 

- Planning, performing and analyzing experiments

- Presenting results at internal and external meetings/conferences

- Preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
