POLINEQUAL (The Politicisaton of Economic Inequality: The Impact of Welfare Regimes, Elites’ Discourse and Media Frames on Citizens’ Perceptions, Justice Evaluations and Political Behaviour, www.polinequal.eu) is financed by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator Grant 2019, 866340) and aims to study the causes and mechanisms that motivate citizens to respond to economic inequalities.

POLINEQUAL's research design is based on a mixed-method approach, organized in different stages and combining data from focus groups, analyses of political discourse and media content, online surveys and experimental studies. Pursuing a comparative perspective, POLINEQUAL data is being collected in France, Great Britain and Sweden.

The post-doc, alongside the project leader, is expected to coordinate and carry out analyses of political and media discourses on economic inequality using methods of critical discourse analysis, content analysis and framing analysis. He/she will also train POLINEQUAL team members in these methods.

Main activities

  • Planning, coordination and execution with the project leader of critical discourse analyses, content analyses and framing analyses of political party programs, political speeches and interviews and media representations of economic inequality
  • Analyses of data collected in POLINEQUAL
  • Training of the POLINEQUAL team members in critical discourse, content and framing analysis
  • Scientific publication activities, dissemination and valorisation of results
  • Teaching activities possible, to be negotiated

Contract: 100 %, duration of contract 24 months (12 months + 12 months extension), post is vacant starting 15th May 2023

Skills/Qualifications

• Proven and advanced experiences and skills in critical discourse analysis, content analysis and framing analysis, a priori in the field of economic inequality, welfare states or social justice
• PhD degree in Political Science, Sociology or Communication Sciences in the scope of/or related to the POLINEQUAL project
• Excellent oral and written skills in English (minimum C1) which is the project language. Furthermore, oral and written skills in French or Swedish will be a plus, but not a prerequisite
• Proven experiences in scientific publishing as well as in outreach activities to the scientific community and the general public
• Knowledge of MaxQDA (software used in the project) desirable

Benefits

Monthly remuneration: starting from €2,395 to €2,919 gross per month (depending on experience)

Hold a PhD degree in Political Science, Sociology or Communication Sciences
Having already worked on welfare states, economic inequality, moral economy, political attitudes or related topics will be an important selection criterion.

Selection process

The selection will be made on the basis of the applications, completed by interviews (via videoconference call or face-to-face interview).
