Offer Description

Candidates are invited to apply for a 6-month Master 2 internship starting in January-February 2023.

The general objective of this project is the development of a new methodological approach toward the synthesis of urethanes and polyurethanes foams from small heterocyclic precursors, avoiding the isolation of carcinogenic isocyanates.

Our guiding principle will be the development of selective and mild free-radical processes, relying on cheap and readily available raw materials, making use of photocatalysis to activate C-H and C-O bonds, to trigger the formation of the urethane linkage.

 

The internship will take place at the Institute of Molecular Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Y. Landais and Dr. F. Robert and at the Organic Polymer Chemistry Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. H. Cramail and Dr. T. Vidil.

The project will focus on the development of new methods for the synthesis of urethanes and polyurethanes from heterocycles by photochemical route.

 

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications

The candidate will have obtained a Bachelor + Master 1 degree or be in the final year of engineering school and have a very good level in organic and organometallic chemistry. The candidate will have a good expertise in organic synthesis in the laboratory and experience in manipulations under inert atmosphere. Finally, he/she will have good practice in all modern spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR, mass spectrometry, ....). A strong interest in polymer chemistry would be a plus, as this project is part of a larger programme on the preparation of polyurethanes using isocyanate-free routes.
