Offer Description
10 PhD positions are available in the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network “EWOC” (Enabling Virtualized Wireless and Optical Coexistence for 5G and Beyond).
EWOC unites world-class academic excellence in optical and wireless convergence for Beyond 5G networks.
The 10 EWOC Doctoral Candidates will be part of an interdisciplinary and international network that includes:

- Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya (Spain),
- Politécnico di Torino (Italy),
- Technische Universität Dresden (Germany),
- Huawei (Sweden),
- SOITEC (France),
- TOP-IX (Italy),
- YL-Verkot (Finland)
- ISRD (Poland).
EWOC fellows will be employed according to the rules for Doctoral Candidates in MSCA DNs and the general regulations of each host institution

- DC1 - 3D Network Modelling for 6G mobile systems
- Host: USW
- Objective: 3D mobile network modelling for 6G coverage-capacity optimisation
- DC2 - Mobility Solutions for High Frequency Carriers in 6G
- Host: HWSE
- Objective: Outdoor mobility modelling and solutions for narrow beam high frequency mobile systems
- DC3 - Flexible Optical Software Defined Transceiver Architectures for 5/6G Applications
- Host: IT
- Objective: Optical Software Defined Transceiver operation enabling cost effective optical resource virtualization
- DC4 - Optical transceiver design for 5/6G with configurable Multiplexing/Modulation
- Host: UPC
- Objective: Enabling flexible multi-flow Optical Software Defined Transceiver operation for high spectral efficiency and versatile optical resource virtualization
- DC5 – Advanced substrate design towards high performance 6G photonic applications
- Currently not available for application submission.
- DC6 - Modelling and optimization of optical transmission for 5G/6G front-hauling in flexible converged metro-access optical networks
- Host: POLITO
- Objective: Digital signal processing based impairment compensation in 6G OFH solutions
- DC7 - Virtualization for Converged Optical Resource Management
- Host: TOP-IX
- Objective: Development of virtualization algorithms for the next generation optical front-hauling
- DC8 - Dynamic functional split framework for 6G coexistent vRAN
- Host: TUD
- Objective: Architecture design for dynamic FS in convergent vRAN effectively supporting service coexistence.
- DC9 - Resource management in a centralized vRAN
- Host – YLV
- Objective: Development of resource allocation and scheduling procedures based on online machine learning for joint optimization of communications, transport and compute resources in a vRAN.
- DC10 - Design of joint resource scheduling procedures for optical and radio converged vRAN architecture
- Host – ISRD
- Objective: Full-duplex vRAN resource scheduling procedures enabling optical virtualization and performance evaluation.

Additional Information
Benefits
- The financial package* will include a monthly researcher allowance (€4,000) (living and mobility), and an additional family allowance (€660) top-up subject to eligibility requirements.
- All EWOC fellows will be enrolled in PhD doctoral programs and tuition fees are free of charge during the contracted period of 36 months.
- In addition to their individual scientific projects, all fellows will benefit from further continuing education, which includes internships and secondments, a variety of training modules as well as transferable skills acquired through an extensive learning program.
* The final net salary is dependent on local tax regulation and weighted against the EU country coefficient factor (to factor-in the cost of living in different EU Member States).
Eligibility criteria
- Degree: Applicants must be doctoral candidates, i.e not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of recruitment.
- Mobility rule: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (e.g. work, studies) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date.

Our selection procedure is open, transparent, merit-based and in line with the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
