Offer Description

The Institute of Cognitive Neuroinformatics at Faculty 3 (Mathematics/Computer Sciences) of the University of Bremen is looking (under the condition of job release) at the next possible date for a

Junior Researcher (f/m/d)
39,2 weekly hours (fulltime) / EG 13 TV-L

in a BMWK/DLR project. The position is time limited until 31.12.2024.

The scientific project investigates novel methods in the area of autonomous driving. For that means, a vehicle is equipped with suitable sensors (laser scanners, cameras, GNSS receivers, IMU) as well as several computers in order to navigate autonomously in urban areas.

The focus of the advertised position is on environment perception and decision making. In particular, sensor data must be fused to detect and identify obstacles and traffic participants and to track their position. In addition, current and prior knowledge should be used to strategically plan the vehicle's route. In addition to model-based approaches, methods from the field of artificial intelligence and deep learning should be used. Software and algorithms from previous projects are available and can be used as basis for the new developments.

The following tasks are associated with the position:

  • Development and evaluation of the methods mentioned above
  • Implementation on the research vehicle and integration into a larger overall system
  • Interdisciplinary work and coordination with other project partners
  • Writing of scientific publications

A requirement for the position is a finished university education (University Diploma, Master) or post-doc in computer science, system engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

Further, the following expertise is desirable:

  • Experiences in one or more of the following fields: sensor fusion, probabilistic methods, deep learning, AI, and robotics
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Technical understanding and quick comprehension
  • Good programming skills in C++
  • Good spoken and written knowledge of English

We offer you the integration into an interdisciplinary institute, which investigates fundamental questions regarding intelligent, biological systems. This covers multi-sensory information processing, causal learning and cognitive decision making. Those biological inspired approaches are combined with theoretical and technical methods and subsequently applied to research areas like autonomous driving as well as household, maritime and space robotics.

The university is family-friendly, diverse and sees itself as an international university. We therefore welcome all applicants regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.

As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply. Disabled applicants will be given priority if their professional and personal qualifications are essentially the same.

Please send your meaningful and complete application documents stating the reference number A59/23 until April 17th, 2023 to
