OFFER DESCRIPTION

More specifically, the research program will focus on (1) determining the excited state properties of photoactive metal complexes and (2) studying the ultrafast photochemical processes behind the Z/E photoisomerization of bioinspired molecular photoswitches.

One of the main projects of our laboratory (L2CM, Nancy, France) aims at the design of photoactive organic molecules and metal complexes relevant for applications in photomedicine or photovoltaics. The understanding of the excited state dynamics and the chemical structure/photophysical properties relationships in these systems is of paramount importance to develop highly efficient photoactive systems. In this regard, transient absorption spectroscopic techniques provide powerful tools to study the ultrafast fundamental photophysics behind such processes.
In this context, applications are opened for a postdoctoral fellowship position funded by the European FEDER project entitled “FireLight: Photoactive molecules and nanoparticles”. As a postdoc, you will carry out femtosecond pump-probe laser spectroscopy to study the excited state dynamics of two classes of photoactive systems: (1) metal complexes for photovoltaics (group of Prof. P. Gros, refs 1,2) and (2) photoisomerization of bioinspired molecular photoswitches (group of Prof. A. Pasc, ref 3). The transient absorption experiments will be performed using a fully integrative TAS commercial setup (Light Conversion, <100 fs pulse duration, 1-60 kHz repetition rate, 325-1300 nm for sample excitation, 350 – 1100 nm for probing, 8 ns delay line).

The femtosecond pump-probe experiments will be driven by a commercial fully integrative TAS (Light Conversion) setup consisting of a Ytterbium laser (Pharos), an optical parametric amplifier (OPA Orpheus Gapless) that generates pump pulses for excitation of the sample (<100 fs pulse duration) in the Vis-NIR region (650-1300 nm). The lower UV-Vis part (325-650 nm) is generated from a second harmonic generator (SH-Lyra). The broadband probe supercontinuum is generated from the sapphire crystal to cover a spectral region from 350 to 1100 nm. The energy of the excitation pulses and the repetition rates are adjustable (from a few tens to 30 µJ, 1-60 kHz), and the spectrometer (Harpia) is equipped with an 8 ns delay line.
