OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Department of Economics and Social Sciences, Institute of Forest, Environmental and Natural Resource Policy is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate (project employment).

Extent of employment: 26 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of November 2022, limited to 31st of October 2025

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1, € 1.988,10

Responsibilities

  • Scientific research within a joint Austrian-French research project (ANR-FWF) assessing how participation in the policy process transforms civil society and how civil society influences public policies in countries of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP)
  • Carry out field research including research stays in two countries of the MENA region (Tunisia, Morocco or Lebanon) focusing on environmental & resource policy and food safety policy
  • Assistance in conducting a survey of civil society organisations in ENP countries
  • Participation in national/international conferences
  • Contributing to project publications
  • Supporting and executing scientific project management
  • Pursue PhD research based on project work

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Political Science, International Relations or other equivalent university degree
  • Very good spoken and written English
  • Arabic and/or French language skills
  • Excellent communications skills and capacity to work in teams

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Solid background in comparative political science, public policy analysis and/or EU studies
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of civil society in MENA countries
  • Familiarity with quantitative methods including statistical software (Stata, SPSS, R), Visone
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • German language skills
